Coconut Pecan frosting failure:)

My husband's birthday was yesterday and he is arriving home from a trip today. I made German Chocolate cake using a Cake Mix Doctor recipe and the cake part turned out great. Very happy with that.

I also tried the frosting recipe that went with it. I followed her (Anne Byrn's) instructions to the letter thank you. And while my frosting looks, smells and tastes yummy it did not thicken up sufficiently to frost a two layer cake with. I guess if I had a cake in a 9 x 13 pan and planned to keep it in the fridge it might be passable.

The good news is I was trying the frosting mostly to satisfy myself and my husband is good with the canned stuff. I'm grumpy it didn't work though and am wondering why. All of my ingredients were fresh and like I said I followed the recipe 100%. I guess I could have cooked it longer but that's not how I read the instructions.

Does anyone have a reliable version of Coconut-Pecan frosting they would like to share? Thank you. And thanks for letting me vent.
