Hi Gesjenn, Welcome. Which cross did you get? My orchids are indoors in MN in dry conditions (humidity from 15%-50%), and the Phals are in NZ sphag and plastic pots. They get repotted in the spring. What works for me is to soak the sphag till it's sopping wet, then squeeze out a lot of the moisture before wrapping the plant. The ideal is for the sphag to be somewhat fluffy and damp but not wet. I could still squeeze out more water, but not a lot. The repotted Phal goes in reduced light for a week, several feet away from the window and artificial light. It doesn't get watered, which allows any raw root ends to harden off. The sphag may get dry - even crunchy - before the 7 days are up, but I tough it out. :) This method's worked with Phals that are new or stressed or both, plus those in spike, bud, and bloom. My one concern would be if you had any raw root ends in completely wet sphag and a plastic pot. If I'm not going to repot a brand new orchid for some reason - in spike, etc., and it's not a Phal - it goes in reduced light for a week too, esp. if it was shipped. Hope your Phal does well. Let us know how it goes.

Of the new shows this season I am looking forward to watching the Defenders and Detroit 1-8-7. I live just across the river from Detroit and this show is generating a lot of buzz about it and one of my favourite Canadian comedians Shaun Majumber plays one of the detectives. It is also kind of cool that everyone who watches it will see the Detroit skyline from Windsor that I see everyday. Anne

Houzz tracks you pretty nearly as much as facebook, you know. That's one of the main reasons so many old gardenwebbers didn't come over. And just like facebook, merely going to a page on the site even if you don't sign up gives you the tracking cookies. I suspect for some of you, you might have read a thread about things here rather on facebook. ETA And google does, too. Most of you may not realize that even if you don't do a google search for something, if you go to a page with any google feature embedded in it, like a page that uses google analytics, or has a google searchbox for the site itself, or has any youtube embedded content, even if you don't click on the google stuff, you get tracked by google ever after unless you remove the cookies. As a matter of fact, in many browsers, even if you don't actually go to a site like that and have removed the cookies, you will still get them back if you start to type a similar URL. You know the convenient way your browser remembers the URL and starts to autocomplete it for you? The site is being pre-loaded in the background even if you're actually going to a different site with a similar name. To avoid that, in safari on a mac, go to the preferences>privacy and turn on "Do not load the top hit in the background." Not sure where it is in chrome and safari. If you don't like this, use ghostery, delete your cookies after visiting sites, use any private browsing function available, and check out disconnect.me for your phone. However, if you are using Windows 10, as a system it tracks every move you make on its own and there's not much you can do about that. Earlier versions of windows give the option to turn things off.

I watched the CBS shows and I've watched the Dateline and some of the Dr. Phil. I don't know what to think, other than believing an intruder is the least-likely scenario. Not impossible, but very unlikely, due to the way the note was written, the way the body was discovered, and Burke's interviews shortly after the crime and 18 months after the crime. Burke said he heard his mother come into his room and then go out of it looking for JonBenet, and then he heard her in hysterics (as he said in the interview afterward "going psycho") and just stayed in bed pretending to sleep or trying to sleep, rather than go try to find out what had happened. Picture your own kids. You burst into your 9 year old's room and then just as suddenly depart. You are frantically crying and screaming, alerting your spouse and then placing a 911 call. Your 9 year old doesn't freeze with fear. They don't hide. They also don't come ask you what's wrong. They don't go find dad and ask what's wrong. They just stay in bed and wait. The only reason I can think of for him to do this is either that he was used to the sound of adults "going psycho" in other parts of the house and did not find that unusual/alarming--or he knew what the problem was and was waiting to find out how his parents were going to handle it.
