Got confused by the phrase 'imported from Europe' but I should have known better... lol I live in an ex-rural, ex-seaside summer vacation place that is now mostly part of the sprawling Athens suburbia, about 40 km east from the center of Athens, by the sea. Yes, I do grow citrus trees as a hobby, I got about 30 of them in my garden, various kinds and varieties and I also grow some in pots (mainly until I can bud them to some suitable rootstock). Citrus are grown commercially in Southern Greece at low altitudes relatively close to the sea. Northern Greece, mainly stone fruit country as you noticed, is already too cold for them as are places in higher altitudes and places too far inland. Citrus and England don't mix well, I know, unless one wants to grow just rootstocks like trifoliate orange and its F1 hybrids which produce inedible fruit, just for decorative purposes. Even under cold glass growing citrus in England should be very iffy, I think. Nik PS. How on earth can one get stuck in Polykastro, a small rural town north of Salonica on the road to Bulgaria? What on earth had you been doing there? That place is really hot and humid in the summer and can be bitterly cold in the winter. I just put in a porcelain tile that mimics a soft golden/orange/tan color terra cotta look. I guess it is supposed to look like old flooring from Crete. It is a bit lighter and less orange than true Saltillo. It is from the company Panaria Ceramica, the tile is called Le Crete, and the color I chose is called Tabaco. I also looked at the Cotti D'eremo, but it had a bit more tile-to-tile variation in color than I was looking for. My tile has color variation within one tile, but all of the tiles are in the same color. Sorry I don't know how to provide a link, but if you do a search you can find the Italian website for Panaria ceramica. This tile was inexpensive and available in multiple places locally (California). I wasn't willing to have to seal tile, so I didn't go with real terra cotta. Plus, the porcelain is tougher. I have gotten many compliments on my floor.

Around where I live the sun gets down to a very low angle for a few months during winter and the days are short (8 hrs. maybe). With all the underbrush and large trees, small conifers growing in the woods don't see much sun during that time, even if they aren't buried in the snow. They all seem to do fine. I have a small spruce in the back yard that spent it's first winter completely covered by the 20" of snow we got that year. But I don't think they need a lot of water because during their dormant period, they don't transpire. I know a dry, sunny, windy day(s) can't damage the needles, it's just that when the roots are froze or dormant, they can't move the water from the ground to the branches so watering the ground would help only minimally. The thing that helps our conifers through the winters up here is when they are either buried in the natural falling/blowing snow or else when we get little snow 'skiffs' or foggy, misty periods during that time, it seems that helps keep the needles from drying out. I have a small spruce in the front yard that gets snow shoveled/snow blowed on it when we do the drive way, Completely covered up again this year again. But each year it grows the best of all the conifers I have.

I am talking about just OSB decking no panels no insulation of any kind on roof deck. If there is a roof leak you will see it in a Katy, Tx rain storm. I am talking about a sloped roof. Realize Houston total rainfall is comparable to places like Oregon. Except the rain fall in Houston area tends to occur in big and some times long rain storms rather than smaller rain storms all year long. Taken from spray foam under roof commentary........ With a sloping roof you have less hydrostatic pressure and if you do have a leak it is more likely to be seen inside regardless of roof type. Note the “regardless of roof type” comment. Built up compact, SIP, SPS… it does not matter." Sure but once that roof is saturated for hours and hours long of rain fall, if there is a leak the water will find it. If the roof deck is insulated you will have to rip all that insulation out to find where the leak is. Gravity works against you here. That is the point is it not? The water travels how far down the insulation until at some weak point in the insulated roof deck it starts dripping. Yeah that's going to cost you. I can't make this point any more clear to you. You must realize the people selling this product are doing what they can to keep selling it. It creates more problems than it cures and it's costly. If you're made of money then you probably have other problems dividing your attention right now. All across the nation if you've ever ridden on an air plane or flown in a helicopter... look at the top of commercial flat roofs. What do you see? building after building? I'll tell you what I see.... HVAC package units sitting in the out door weather. In some cases even the duct work sits on the roofs covered in what is commonly referred to as a 'dog house' to protect the ducts from the weather. Everybody and their brother has something to sell you, no? I don't know maybe you are trying to sell it to me? (good luck, I know better) They all claim they have the best thing since sliced bread. I am here to tell you it's not what it's cracked up to be. (I have been in rental homes, I have been in home owner homes for over 22 years now... I have personally found roof leaks on more than one occasion, not only in homes of others... but also my own. I am not a roofer by the way.... For those reasons, I will never agree with mentality of insulating a roof deck. It doesn't hold water. After what I have pointed out, if you choose to continue to think it's a better way you may never have a problem with it. Roofs in various parts of the country can last what? 30 years? By the time people start complaining of roof leaks and big messes with an insulated roof deck you could retire huh? )
