B&S 18hp no spark, help needed
Comments (17)Try to "trace" the kill wire from where it connects to the coil, to its next "connecting point". This may lead you to the throttle linkage area near the carburetor, or to a terminal on the ignition switch. It might "branch off" from either of those locations and continue to a seat switch or a clutch/brake pedal switch. The idea behind your search is to try and identify all the places where the "KILL WIRE" circuit travels to, and connects. Any single switch that is connected to the kill wire circuit is capable of "switching to ground" and thereby "killing the spark, and the engine. If you can identify all switches that can ground the kill wire, you then have to determine whether a specific switch is defective or simply out of adjustment. Click the link below and study the Briggs IPL for your engine. Go to page 8 of the IPL. First, find item # 222, this is the throttle cable attachment point and also incorporates the OEM Briggs "stop switch". Inspect this switch carefully to determine if it has lost the isulator components that could cause this switch to "short to ground". Find item # 356, 356A, and 356B. This is the OEM Briggs kill wire (stop wire). Notice that 356B is a "two wire" configuration. YOUR engine will only feature one of the 3 configurations of stop wire. 356B is an example of what I meant about the kill circuit "branching off" to other locations. Now, you will have to trace the circuitry to determine how many things (switches) are employed on your particular machine. Keep in mind, SOME seat switches (OPSS) have a "shorting plug" or connector that connects to the switch terminals. These "shorting connectors" cannot simply be "unplugged" from the switch to check or defeat. The shorting function of these connectors will deploy when the connector is removed from the switch and that will ground the kill circuit the same as if the seat was "vacant". Comments (7)You sure should be able to tell if the starter shaft is turning in the drive by inspecting the drive. According to parts, the nylon gear is the one. The IPL for that build shows the replaceable aluminum gear. So if you replace the whole drive- hopefully you are good to go and the starter cranks the engine. If your not good to go and the engine is indeed spinning freely, so no damage from running hot and no drag on the PTO end - then it is likely the starter is tired. About the only exceptions tend to be oil burners w/ lots of carbon under the head or issues with power & ground to the starter. To test the starter, it takes a known good battery and good jumper cables. Disconnect the ground from the battery if it is installed in the tractor. + bat to the lug on the starter. - battery momentarily touching the side of the starter. Know it will spark. If it cranks, look at the cabling. If t doesn't it is typically a starter....See Moremicro derm. and chemical peel, anyone have?
Comments (16)I'll have to experiment with pictures, lol..... to see if I dare post them. My eyeliner is a thin line of smoky charcoal. I found the process for the brows painful , it's a piercing needle, and the 5 days of healing difficult to deal with , scabs and such; the brown color develops later so having bacitricin on your very black brows for 5 days is not easy to camouflage. ( washing hair or showering with underwater goggles is a hoot; you can't drench the newly done work for a week until it's really set in ) I don't think it looks natural, I barely have a little fuzz on my brows, but it looks a hell of a lot better than it did when I penciled it in; it looks "made up" but I'm fine with that. Someone with a certain quality/quantity of brow hair could have them filled in with the permanent makeup and it would look more natural, I think. My technician does touchups a month later after the initial appt, the process is less but still there is healing time and the greasing up of the area. The eyeliner was nothing really, being such a small surface, my eyes barely puffed up. So I would suggest researching the methods, I found it quite the process to go through but am so happy it's done now....See More35hp Briggs Vanguard popping backfiring
Comments (12)So this popping is back through the carb vs exhaust? And you are crimping the pulse hose on the fuel pump, so if you look at 844527 pump it, looks like that pump? Twins will want to do this running lean, but then slowing the fuel supply lessens it. Engine hours? The IPL I'm looking doesn't delineate between a carb with a fuel solenoid or without either. I assume the mains were firmly in place? Has this machine been moved from say a high altitude area to a lower so that the jets may not be correct for the carb? So if you can clarify these things we'll be on the same page. I've seen on the 44" carbs that the plastic spacer plate warps which is similar, but I don't know if the spacer plate on these acts as a restrictor or not. The smaller ones that do -have a tin plate with the spacer that the bore is slightly smaller, are punched a certain way and are directional in the installation. If I were there and the above seems good- run some marvel or Seafoam through the venturi when it pops and note the effect. Also, take carb spray and as this warms try and detect a vacuum leak. Think spacer, worn throttle shaft, intake gaskets etc....See MoreJamie
