This is just my own opinion- I think the mirror is beautiful... but it does not go with the more rustic look of your cabinets. That's just me, though- if you think it looks good, buy it!

That is what I was afraid of....... That mirror was the only one I could find that had the most simple frame. *sigh* I went to a glass specialty store and everything there looked wither to upscale or contemporary. The antique pewter finish matches the light fixtures though LOL! I guess I should also ask over on the decorating forum while I am at it.

Thank you for your opinion ilmbg :-) I am going to also ask our future neighbor, she is an interior designer. OH! DH's father has a storage full of antique furniture. I wonder if I could find something in there.....thinking out loud.

You need to ask your electrician about adding the sconces before having your heart set on them...just in case.

I'm glad you've already ruled out the mirror! lol Something old, especially if you use antique furniture, or you can do what I did - go to your local framing shop and have a custom mirror made from picture molding. So many options and prices points. I didn't mind spending a little extra, since a good mirror can make a big difference to a room and it's not something I will ever change out.

I did purchased one already made for the exercise bath but I don't have a photo. It is very large and was purchased at a locally owned home accessories store. fyi, I did not rush - DH was complaining about no MBR mirrors (other than my vanity) for about 2mths after we moved in but I wasn't willing to settle. ;)

The sconces I was thinking more of the decorating ones, candles maybe??? Our furniture is not really going to be antique, leather sofa for sure. I just remembered DD wrote all over the box for the mirror yesterday at the house when she was bored. LOL. That one might be used for the half bath :-0

I was thinking of buying the glass and having a frame made out of knotty alder and staining it the same. Maybe that would be to much of the same thing? *sigh* *sigh* *sigh* LOL! I wish everyone would wake up so I could go look around at other places!!! HEE HEE!

Check Kirklands, TJ Maxx, Marshalls. I found great mirrors for great prices. Kirklands' will not always be all wood but if that doesn't bother you (you will pay a lot more for solid wood frames), their selection will blend more with your style home. Another option is the glass co putting up mirrors on the wall (the size mirror you want) and trimming it with moulding. I've seen that done quite often around here, even on higher end homes. Ps. It's best to put the moulding up and then have the glass company measure and fit to that.

I have a problem with your DH's sink. It looks as though it is too close to the tub for him to stand in front of it to shave. I also don't see electrical outlets for sconces to provide 'side' lighting. I would sacrifice the top vanity drawer and replace the countertop, centering the sink cutout. If you don't do that, then I'd mirror the whole wall. I don't know what to do about providing good shaving light -- maybe mount a lighted, hinged-swing shaving mirror through the wall mirror or on the wall cabinet?

I can't tell if your DD's off-center sink has the same problem with floor space and side lighting.

Your own sink would look fine with a framed mrror, but again, I'd want some side lighting. That's a large expanse of bare wall if you don't use a wall mirror.

DH and I have pedestal sinks with oversized medicine cabinets over them -- about 24 X 36. They are 4" deep recessed boxes and look like framed mirrors. Each has a pair of sconces on dimmers. I find 60W to 100W per sconce is adequate.

We are in the market for oval frames too. I like simple for the master bath and I want black or espresso and I've not had any luck finding any that is in my budget. Yes we've moved in since Thanksgiving and still don't have mirrors in the master.

Target online has several oval mirrors. Bellacor has a bunch too. Not sure what your budget is but the one I like the best is over $200 at Target and my budget is less than $150 so I'll keep looking.

You will have to ask your electrician if he can get wires to either side of the mirrors for sconces. My electrician went around each room with me before he did the wiring. We decided where I wanted wall lights, either above or the side of mirrors. He then put the wire within a few inches of where the light will be placed. The wires are behind the sheetrock and he will cut a hole in the general area where the wiring is and reach in to bring the wire out. The back of the light covers up the hole.

Lighting stores also carry mirrors. I have mine done in our powder room and will have the master bath ones made by our cabinet maker. I am struggling with what to put in the guest bath. I have brought home 2 so far and neither one of them worked. This is the one I bought at a local lighting store for the powder room.

Kel, I actually like the mirror you found. I agree that something more rustic would probably fit better with your style but with the pewter faucets, this one would look nice too. As for the lighting, is there not enough room to do a fixture above the mirror? I may have time today (in between football games) to do some photoshopping if you'd like. Show me your faucet, sink, lights etc. Also, if you have a photo of the vanity straight on, that makes it easier to photoshop too.

Lyfia, did you check Lamps Plus for oval mirrors? There were a few reasonably priced ones in there. Also, they often have great deals inside the store if there is one near you.

I really, really like that mirror. Not sure I'd love it in your space... it seems a bit "dainty" for you "strength" of your cabinetry... if that even makes sense? But, I'd love to see Lindy photos shop your elements together. If you have pewter faucets, that might make it all work?

Another option for large mirrors is Costco, if you have one near you. They usually have a few options in large mirrors. Sometimes iron, sometimes wood. I've got a few in my CA house from them. Not expensive, but look really nice.

Do you have Homegoods near you? I got a great deal on a large, handpainted mirror a few months ago. Hobby Lobby? Walmart even has mirrors, although I'm not sure what "style" they are. I know they wouln't be "horchow" quality, but they still might have a look you like. With the money you save, you could buy something else for the house you've been wanting. LOL!

There are lights above the sinks they are not put up yet. There is also a light in the middle of the room. There really is a ton of light coming in they bathroom because of the two big windows. I thought also DH was going to have a tight fit but he says he will have plenty of space and light. I guess we will soon see! LOL!

I bought some decorative sconces that have candles with them that I had pictured to go along each side of the mirror. DH and I went to so many places today and I ended up finding a rectangle mirror that I really loved! It fits much better in my space then the oval mirror did.

My only thought is with a smaller mirror w/ a frame will you have enough space to see yourself when you're getting ready. Your dd too? I'm used to a full mirror across my vanity wall so that's what we're going with in most of our rooms. I'm just wondering if your dd will have her curling iron/straightner to the left of her sink someday but have to stretch it all the way over to the small mirror.

I'll admit I'm wondering if my plain ol' mirrors are gonna bug me.

jeannekay - The small mirror is perfect in the bath as I don't like the large plate glass. I only use the mirror in the bath to fix my hair (don't really wear make-up, but if I did I would use it for that too). I had this in my old master too. We are going to put a full length mirror in our closet as that is where I get dressed so it makes more sense, plus I don't have to see all the flaws in my body without clothes on.

Octagonal frame for DH, to pick up the angle of the tub. The oval looks out of place, too soft for the angles of the cabintry.

Don't forget to check out frames at art stores, and photography/artists' supply houses. The mirror can be cut to fit by a glass installer.

jeannekay - Good points I agree! DD is getting a vanity for her bedroom. Antique from DH's family. It is in storage and we are not planning on putting it in her room until she is over the "I must color on everything stage"! LOL! Well she is over that but she wrote on my new kitchen table with a sharpie pen....by accident! It is small and it appears she just missed the edge of the paper she was writing on. Not a big deal but I would hate for it to happen to an antique piece of furniture.

She also is going to have a full length mirror in her closet.

Now for me, I do not even own a curling iron or straightener! LOL! Shocking I know. I have natural curly hair and usually wash and air dry :-) I do think the bigger mirror on my side to balance things out. I did see a really neat full length mirror that I want for our closet. I am starting to regret not putting in a window in our closet. It does not appear that it will be dark in there but.....that might be a better thing to have it dark. *wink*

Off to the house to see what is going on!!

Meldy-nav - Funny you should mention an octagon frame. I found one yesterday and I really liked it and DH said NO! He did not like the shape at all. Not sure if he has issues with octagons or what! LOL! Maybe he just did not like that one mirror.

OH MY! So many choices!! I just got back from meeting the builder about the back splash and tub surround. I *think* I have made my last decision!!! He told me tonight that the house should be done NEXT week!!! DH does not believe but I am staying positive.

Well, just as I hit 'send', I thought, OBLONG octagonal. But, not enough to post again then, lol. I think my main thought was simply that an oval was too curved for all the angles of the area.

Kel- I used to have very naturally curly hair too. So I get the wash & air dry thing. Not until I used some medicated shampoo did I get straight hair. I do like it but it's taking time to get used to. I had to buy a hair dryer & straightner, I'd never used them either.

And I'm thinking that whole not being able to see the body thing might be a really good idea! LOL

Jennymama- Well, the builder bought the wrong back splash tile and he was leaving for a short vacation this weekend. I went out the house tonight and they came and picked up the wrong stuff so that was a good sign! Tomorrow I am heading out to paint DD's bathroom. I hope it turns out ok. We are doing a fish, ocean, fish kind of thing! LOL!

I was walking around tonight and there is so many little things to do but as far as I am concerned they can do them with me in the house! LOL! Let us know if you get moved in!!!!!! Sort of off topic-- I'm not saying this would work in your space-- but I'm just smitten by this mirror, and am trying to decide if I can [at all] justify $500+.

I agree...they can work around us (actually, they are while I am typing this, LOL).

We do have a construction loan. Our interest is 6.5%! I still hate making interest only payments. Tile guys were suppose to be there today. The builder is out of town this weekend so I guess when the cat is away the mice will play!! I left the house around 11:30am after I painted DD's bath. Maybe they came out after. Wishful thinking! :-)

Totallyblessed - I painted the blue but I clearly bought the wrong roll. It sucked up so much paint! I need to buy more tomorrow to put another coat on. I LOVE the blue color :-) I wish I could paint a mural. I am not talented like that. DH's grandmother was a wonderful artist. She would have made it beautiful. BUT, it will have to do with me! I was trying to think of how I could make the top of the blue (it is about 4 ft up the wall) look like waves. Yeah, it didn't work! LOL!! Good thing I had plan B....border :-) I think once I buy the little sticky on things (my mind is fried tonight) and put in all the accessories it will really turn out cute. I will be sure to post pictures once it is done. Right now I am just hoping the tile guys come tomorrow!! All of the right tile was delivered today so that was a good sign :-)
