Awm03, I'm right there with you. I lost 10.5 pounds in the last two months. Yeah us!

I'm on a weight loss roller coaster. Re-injured my knee on Thursday. I was stupid, thought I could do Zumba and now it's painful, swollen and stiff all over again. I took a spinning class yesterday but it was too soon and felt terrible so I'm down for the count this week with no exercise and constant icing. I'm thinking I should just get the stupid surgery and move forward. I'm feeling like my diet is going to be a wreck this week so I'm not going to worry about it and just try to drink tons of water and eat tons of vegetables.

I ended last week with a slight setback; i.e. weight gain. DH was home for the weekend and multiple dining out activities led to a 1.6 lb increase. So I'm currently down 7 with the increase - and I can tell the difference. Plus I tweaked my back trying to chip ice off my front walk. I've still managed to ride my exercise bike but I'm holding off on the yoga so I don't aggravate the back. Now this week I'm traveling for work which makes it hard to eat as minimally as I do when I'm home. Hoping I can get back to the yoga while I'm on the road this week so I can get some kind of exercise. DH is home again next weekend so that will undoubtedly result in more eating! Could be a rough couple of weeks.

Ah gibby, sorry about all that. If we can just get through the next four weeks, no more snow & ice removal.

Dining out is a diet killer. I had success on our recent trip by ordering extra vegetables instead of a starch, salad w/ dressing on the side, & eating fish as much as possible. No bread. One glass of wine & make it last. I ordered a hamburger for lunch but ignored the bun & 90% of the fries. Hope wherever you're staying has a decent workout room.

kellyeng, this knee of yours is awful. How frustrated you must be after coming this far and now having to limit yourself.

I'm holding my own LOL. Actually I'm doing much better on exercise, mainly because I've had to do a few weeks of PT. Thanks to some new duties at my job and the fact that I've apparently been sitting and straining too long in front of the computer - I developed some upper back/neck problems. Talk about KNOTS. Massage was painful - not fun!! Because of numbness/tingling in one arm, the doctor suspected carpel tunnel, but after just a few PT sessions, no more of that. It's all muscular - and the fact that I need to pay attention to my posture!!! Anyhoo - I had just a few visits to deal with pain, flexibility, ect. and am now on strength training. Hand weights, weight machines, exercise bar, etc. My upper body has been neglected too long and I'm actually enjoying the exercises. Also walking outside or using the eliptical.

I'll be honest - I have not even weighed. Still struggling with my sweet tooth, but overall doing pretty good with eating and I am have definitely cut down on portion size. I really don't have a problem with eating out - I can work that in. The worst part of that (for me) sometimes is portion size. In that case, just have them divide the portion to start with - and take the rest home.

Kelly - I'm sorry you are still having problems with that knee!! But still - you are doing great! 10.5 pounds is awesome!

Good news - did my yoga routine last night with minimal limitation from my back issue. DH kept telling me to do it as it might make my back feel better. He swears by it since all his back and neck problems went away after he started doing it. I kept ignoring that advice but really wanted to do some kind of exercise so I gave it a try. Amazingly my back did feel much better immediately after and practically normal today. Yay!

Eating today not bad so far but dinner looms ahead.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a stomach bug and lost 7 lbs.! In the first day of normal eating, of course I gained it all back. Ha. Then we went on a tropical vacation and I gained back the 3 lbs. that it took me a whole month to lose. I just keep going back and forth with the same 3 lbs., which is very frustrating. (I would like to lose 10-15 lbs.) As of this week, I am back on my gym routine and counting WW points. I haven't weighed myself yet this week but I am hoping at least 1 or 2 lbs. have dropped back off.

My doctor said sometimes your body gets comfortable at a certain weight and it can be really difficult to move from that weight, but once you do, you can do it and continue losing. That's what I feel like -- it's like I am stuck in a hole and I keep almost getting out (lose 2 lbs.), then sliding back in (gain them back), and over and over.

Sueb - that is so frustrating isn't it? It takes forever to lose the weight and then it's all back in a weekend. I still haven't come to grips with how I'm going to deal with it in the long run. I'm doing okay as long as I'm in "isolation" but limited self control when I'm somewhere that I'm presented with temptation. Especially bad if schedule isn't conducive to much exercise.

I know it's not much of a conciliation but to gain back three pounds of fat means you had to eat 10,500 calories ON TOP of your daily caloric needs. So say you were gone for a week and your daily caloric need is 2000 calories. That means you had to be eating at least 3500 calories every day to gain back three pounds. This doesn't even take into consideration all the activity calories you were burning.

Most likely it's water weight from salty restaurant food and not drinking as much water as you normally do. I think just having a change in routine affects how much water weight we carry around. I bet a week of getting back on track will take those pounds right off.

I'm sick again. This time fever, chills and headaches which turned out to be strep throat. So I haven't gone to the gym all week. I've been eating either yogurt or soup, since my throat is killing me.

Good news though, I haven't stepped on a scale in a few weeks b/c the scale in the ladies locker room mysteriously disappeared. So when I got on the scale at the doctor's office this morning, I was down 14lbs! I was in utter shock. DH noticed and mentioned how good I look, me being the eternal pessimist when it comes to my own appearance just brushed off the compliment. I guess I do look different. 14 lbs is A LOT to lose. So Happy!

Wow Polly - that is fantastic progress on the weight loss!! Sorry to hear you're under the weather though.

I'm finally down another pound.

Kelly, I knew you were right but was still happy and relieved to get on the scale this morning and see that I'm down 3.4 lbs. Now the trick is to keep going in this direction. I haven't made it below this number (besides the stomach-bug week) in a really long time. Fortunately we have a quiet weekend ahead with no parties or temptations to overdo! And I'm back on a good exercise routine. This week I went to the gym twice, did an exercise show on TV one day (I love Gilad!), and this morning we're going to Zumba.

Spring is coming and I don't want to have any anxiety about coming out from hiding behind my winter coat!

kellyeng is right about salty restaurant food. DH & I stopped off for a thin crust cheese pizza w/anchovies last night, and I'm up two pounds this morning. I ate sensibly during the day, & ate a little more than usual at dinner but certainly didn't gorge. Sheesh...

Did you see this? 'The best workout you're not doing' from a Yahoo article. Might be worth trying, especially if you need to mix things up a bit.
Insanity workout

I have not contributed to these health check-in threads before but I had to agree with earlier comments. I check my weight twice daily and find that it almost always increases if I eat out at a restaurant regardless of how little I eat there or what healthy choices I make. Yesterday I tried out a recipe at home that is the signature dish of a well known chef. I had to make a sudden adjustment to the dish when I realized that the recipe called for 1 whole cup of butter to add to only 1/2 cup of sauce! I believe it's the added salt, sugar and BUTTER that makes a lot of restaurant food taste good.....and make us gain those unwanted pounds!

Also I just want to send a virtual high five to all those taking steps to lose weight/be more healthy.

I went to WW and have lost 3.5 pounds over the past few weeks. Doing really well with workouts. I find I like the ones that include weights. My plan is three more active classes (cardio sculpt and anything goes) and one yoga class a week. If I have to work, I will try to fit other things in if I can.

Tough day today...I helped a friend with her daughter's baby shower. Too many treats to avoid!
