Comments (15)Karen, you just made me remember that I bought DGD the 4ft lilac tree at JoAnn's a few years ago. Maybe I can borrow that instead of her sister.LOL Hope you and your DGD enjoy the colored trees. The witch on the right side is being very naughty (she is my tree topper) that won't stay on w/o fall off. Here's a close up of her. I still have alot more witches but need to go dig them out. Interesting story my MIL told me today. She was talking to a lady that cleans up after fires and she said everyone so far has had a kitchen witch in it.Dododo Luvs, you have a great memory. I did do alot of decorating last year for Halloween. I donated some of my decorations and hope to get through the rest and donate what I don't put up. Haven't talked with DGD today so don't know how her game went. Thought they might come down but so far, no show or call. Jeanne, she is kinda creepy, especially after hearing DMIL story. I will keep all of them out of the KITCHEN. DGD is so special and she is so sincere. I ask her if she was starting kindergarten this year and she said NO. So I said "maybe you will learn your ABC's and learn to count to 100 if you go to preschool again." She looked at me and said "Nana, really, are you kidding?" I got that award over 2 years ago. OA, it took 2 cans of Krylon spray paint. We do have a Wagner sprayer but I rattle canned it in no time at all. I thought it might be blobby and stick together put it's nice and I'm still able to fluff it. I only have 2 gkids and wish I had a dz. Since she is the only one around, I try to spend alot of quality time with her. I haven't seen our gson for 5 years. I just send lots of gifts and put money in his savings acct. Comments (25)I LOVE orchilvr's kitchen - it's a great inspiration pic for you. The black would look super. We struggled with our TurboChef door colour - debated between red and a shade of green. In the end we did a custom red that's deeper and richer than the standard red they offer. I think it works well with the sage green cabs, light golden colour tile floors and soapstone (but then again I am *very* partial to red!) Here's a pic I came across of a green range and hood - food for thought... Have you looked at the RAL chart on the BS site...so many to choose from! (I know I know - that is part of the problem, right?) The best advise you've received is that it should be a colour you love, becasue it's an expensive investment. Good luck! Comments (7)Which direction does your kitchen face? How much natural vs artificial light? Will the light mainly be flourescent or incandescent, LED, halogen? Does your kitchen feel cool or warm? All of these will affect how you perceive the color in your space. Also, besides the hard surfaces, what is your inspiration? What are you taking cues from? A picture, a fabric, art? Consider adjacent spaces. Does the kitchen stand alone, or is it open to another room (besides a breakfast nook)? Does it share a wall? Maybe take pictures of your existing space. If you have a cabinet sample, counter sample, floor and backsplash tile sample in that space it would help too. If you're still not sure I would say pick something neutral such as an off white, like BM Powder Sand. Something like this can be livable for a while. This way you don't hold up construction while you struggle to decide on a color. This is of course assuming that you don't have crazy high ceilings and painting is DIY-able. Comments (10)Maple Glazed Salmon with Orange and Fennel Spinach Salad (From our local paper today) "Even people who say they don't like fish, always seem to like this recipe." 4 to 8 salmon fillets or steaks 1/2 cup orange juice concentrate, thawed 1/2 cup maple syrup 1 clove garlic, minced 3 tbsp dark soy sauce Salad 10-oz pkg spinach, washed 1 small fennel bulb, thinly sliced half small red onion, thinly sliced 2 oranges 1/3 cup light mayonnaise 2 tbsp white wine vinegar 1 tbsp grated orange zest (from one of the oranges) 2 tbsp orange juice 1 tbsp honey 1 tsp Dijon mustard salt to taste Four hours before you want to eat, lay the salmon down in a large dish that will hold all the pieces in one layer. Mix the orange juice concentrate, maple syrup, garlic and soy sauce. Pour over the fish and coat well. Cover and refrigerate. Heat the grill. Meanwhile rinse and dry the spinach leaves, slice the onion and fennel, avoiding the hard core of the fennel. Peel and cut the orange into bite-size pieces. Combine in a bowl. Grill the salmon over medium-high heat, usually about 5 minutes per side, or until salmon is opaque and flakes easily. If the salmon is thicker than 1", add another 10 minutes of cooking time for each extra inch of thickness. Discard any leftover marinade. While salmon is grilling, mix together the mayonnaise, vinegar, orange zest and juice, honey, mustard and salt. Toss with the salad....See More- 24 years ago
