Unless there is something wrong with the kidney itself, I can tell you that you needn't worry. Just drink plenty of water. I have been living with one kidney for over 30 years and it functions just fine (empirically proven by BUN/CREA levels in a recent blood test). The fact of the matter is that the body can funtion perfectly well with one third of one kidney, so you shouldn't worry that the lone kidney is "taxed". Just stay away from high-protein, low carb diets (Atkins) since they throw the system into ketosis, which is not good for the kidney. Just drink lots of water (and a healthy, balanced diet, preferably containing minimal processed foods).

Thanks for all the help. I am going to try using one of those steraline tubs and cut a hole in the side for easy entry. I cant really move the box, the bathroom is to small and this box is in the only room that does not have carpet, there are several more down here in the basement but he does not come down here much. My two female cats stay down here most of the time (my office is down here) they do pick on him (they have claws) he outweighs them by a ton but he's kinda a wimp. So the 3 other cats use mostly the boxes down here but will also use "his" box upstairs. He does at times come down here and wee outside the boxes. It's a sealed concrete floor that slopes to a drain I can just wash down with water Yes we have seen him actually do the deed however he does often wee over the top of the box too. I noticed the health food store in town has that feliway and I will try that as well. I am laughing at the Prozac, maybe just give it to hubby instead LOL, seriously though will talk to the vet about it! Honestly this is hubbys favorite cat and the only one of the 4 HE brought home. .Abby is safe till spring at least, it is 0 outside now and the ground is frozen solid, I heard him tell Abby he better "get it together before he can dig him a hole" he calls him Junior so he really does love his cat.I have told hubby he will have to make that decision because I will not, his response was "you want me to make the decision so you can hate me forever for killing the cat" UUUGGGGG I wish the cat had a 401K, pension and SS......we would have no problem.

I too have dawn effect, it is a real difficult thing to try to deal with, I do the snack before bed but that does not help the only way I can avoid dawn effect is to get up at like 2 or 3 am and have a snack! Then my morning fasting number will be in the normal range. That is not going to happen though. But luckily my number even though out of norm range is not crazy high. Insurance will usually pay for as many test strips and lancets you need to do your testing as long as the doctor writes the script to cover testing that often. Mine does. And I also always use what ever brand meter and supplies my insurance tells me is their preferred brand so that it will be cheaper, and every one of the major meter companies have a program you can sign up for where they send you a prescription card to use when getting your supplies that will knock the co-pay cost down even more. I do at times have to remind the pharmacy I have that card on file so they give me my extra discount. We recently changed insurance again through my husbands work and they had a different preferred brand so they sent me a letter with the info to get the new free meter and supplies for their preferred brand. I have never paid for a meter and have quite a few now. I really do like the one I have now, it has all the test strips in a barrel container that is inside the meter so no more handling test strips at all just push the button and it sticks out the bottom of the meter and the lancet is also attached to the meter, makes it very very easy to use for me with my arthritis hands. There is absolutely no doubt that a good healthy balanced diet is best for all conditions including diabetes. No arguments at all there. Balanced being the important term. I have undergone multiple diabetes education classes, seminars, workshops etc. I get it. I'm living it. What is upsetting to me and I am sure to anyone else that has type 2 the constant implication that we are second class citizens, and don't deserve to have medical research money spent on us like in the article quoted because we are responsible for our disease. That is so far from the truth and it is beyond hurtful to hear it. That the public is being raped because money is spent on research to help save our lives, we are not worthy of the same treatments as a patient with cancer, or any other deadly disease. That is exactly how it came across in both posts. And believe me we hear it all the time. The diabetes forums are so many people expressing this same feeling, being looked down upon, spoken to with disgust. I spent my entire life being a degreed, licensed, medical researcher fighting to find cures for diseases and help for genetic related conditions. Because I am a Geneticist. I did go to medical school. I did pay my dues. I did everything in my power to try to help people no matter what disease they had. I worked on cancer protocols, diabetes protocols, hepatitis, all types of genetic illness in pregnancy, I spent years working on the Human Genome project as did all geneticists. So to hear someone so easily say that " Another pill to treat a disease that is due to sugar, sucrose, high fructose corn syrup, whatever you want to call it!" How belittling. And express that money should not be spent on that research, what instead we should be simply left to die because God forbid we got the damn disease that is caused by sugar? See how that could just possibly stab me in the heart and be a little upsetting? Believe me I am not the only one feeling this right now. Would anyone have ever said the same thing about a new drug that was found to reverse breast cancer?
