Glue for Teacup Birdfeeders?

I am trying to make these for my 3 BGF's. Tried an epoxy glue and a GE Silicone II for windows and doors that was reccomended on the Garden Junk forum in the FAQ. Neither will hold the copper end cap on the saucer. As soon as I try to take it apart the cap comes off from the glue!

I am about ready to throw the whole mess in the garbage! I have sanded the spots off and nothing works.

Has anyne made these and what did you use for glue?

Going to "Plan B" which is to melt coffee scented candles and pour the wax into the cup to make coffee cup candles! LOL
I have a spoon I bought at the thrift store to put in the cup (before the wax hardens) and hope it will look ok!

That sounds pretty.

I use E6000 for most of glue projects. I think if you really covered the end cap with it, and let it harden for a couple days it would hold.

All I do is try to get to the center of it,which might involve unscrewing the top or bottom. Then I reach in and clip all the wires I see with my wire cutters. Then I take out the screws in each arm,and clip the wires there,and pull them out of each arm. Hope that helps! If it's not in my way( that is,in the way of glueing on a cup and saucer for the things I make) I leave it in there. Most of the ones I've used, I turned the arms upside down because the cup part faced down,and I needed it facing up. That just flips around with no tools needed. Good luck,ya'll :)

Nonacook, Thank You for also sending prayers for my brother and prayers back to you as I remember you recently lost your DH. I Love your gardens and saw the bird feeder on the lamp base. What a cute idea and I just happen to have the ingredients for the recipe :-)Your cabin and garden looked like many good times were enjoyed there. Sorry it no longer exists :-( I looked at your Elephants. I collect'em too and have one like your gray one you have sitting by the amber pole arrangement. I got mine many years ago at a FM in Texas. He has moved with me everywhere and is looking old for sure, but he still sits in front of my house all weathered but still has that sweet look on his face.

I love china teacups and you've received many good ideas for repurposing them. On Martha Stewart's site she shows using them in a drawer for small items of jewelry. Not a great space saving idea but it looked very pretty! I've made and sold many 'tea-lights' from glass punch cups or glass cups and saucers. The punch cups don't come with saucers however they are often available at yard sales or I used any clear shallow bowls instead as in the pic below. This is the best pic I have. For use in the garden these require copper fittings to be super-glued to the bottom of the saucer and a copper pipe attached to it (crush the bottom of the pipe so it inserts easily into the soil). They look great when placed in the garden with tea-lights glowing. I used them around my patio. Many people seem to use these as birdfeeders but I've never done that as all it would take is some rain to make it a moldy mess.

Would liquid nails work? I use it a lot but haven't tried it on glass.

Assuming that both pieces are ceramic, this is what I found.

Glass to Glass
For the strongest, fastest, and most invisible bond we recommend:
Loctite Impruv

If Loctite is not available in your area, or you live in Alaska in the winter where there is no available UV light, we recommend:
Household Goop

Another fast alternative that will do the job, but not as strong, is
Krazy Glue
Super Glue
Zap
Zap-a-Gap if you have gaps to fill

If the bond has to hold up to solvents use:
Seal-All

The least toxic, yet not as strong, alternative is:
Weldbond

Whenever you are glueing glass you must consider the visibility of the adhesive. If the glass is translucent or transparent, you will want a glue that dries as clear as possible.

Before glueing any glass bond be sure that the glass is clean, free of any oil (even from your fingers) and dry.

Use only GOOP products. They take longer to cure, but they're the only things that will hold up outside. A caution, however, glueing the copper cap to the saucer will work temporarily...if they never remove it, it'll hold up for a long time. But there is really no glue that will hold up the lever action that would occur by repeated removing the cap from the copper stake.

I've been making garden stakes for MANY years, I sell them and I have been through every single incarnation of them. I hear all the time from people who tried to make them but failed. That's why I'm still in biz! haha.

Your candles will be awesome. We did this one year for Mother's Day gifts, and they were a big hit. I glued spoons to the saucers, and in one, where the cup was chipped, I glued the spoon into the cup over the chip. Poured the wax in (I colored it brown and added cinnamon scent), let it set up and it was really cute.
