Modern gas fireplace for indoor/outdoor application
Comments (0)I am new to this forum but hoping someone can help me out. I am building a new home in the SF Bay Area and have an exterior courtyard outside my family room. I had spec'ed an indoor/outdoor gas fireplace for this space thinking that such a thing should be easy enough to customize. It's just a view-thru two-sided fireplace right? No such luck! Heat-n-Glo makes a unit that is designed for indoor/outdoor use but other two-sided fireplaces are indoor only. The only problem is that the Heat-n-Glo is a bit small and it's very traditional. I was looking for a linear, modern burner. I've called a number of manufacturers and spoken to a number of fireplace showrooms and no one can help me. Does anyone here have any design ideas, models recommendations or custom shops they can recommend? Many thanks!...See MoreTrane 2.5 T Outdoor / 3T indoor?????
Comments (18)Andre, Have you considered the XL16i - its has two stages, for example the 3ton operates at approximately 2 tons in stage one, and 3 tons for stage two - if needed. This would give some extra heat in the winter, and in the summer if you close (as you stated in other post) your first floor vents to balance upstairs airflow / temperature this may work out better when the unit is running in stage one - less CFM's. But the duct work may not be large enough for 3 tons - which as you stated could make things noisy when that stage is needed. Also, check if AC company can modifiy the ductwork upstairs for better summer cooling by enlarging the ducts and installing a damper for the updstairs lead duct at the air handler when the unit is changed out....See MoreIndoor/Outdoor Fireplace
Comments (4)Maybe not negative but probably beyond the builder's skill set to do. Are you talking wood burning or gas? That would definitely make a difference in the design. I'm assuming if it's gas that you'll have a fixed glass front on the outside to seal it so that it's for viewing only? I found a discussion thread on these on another site. A lot of posters were like me in thinking these weren't practical but there were some that had them and liked them but they said that the design and installation were critical and often problematic. Good luck with yours....See MoreFlush mounted indoor/outdoor fireplace Recommendations Needed
Comments (0)I would love your advice on how to finish this fireplace. It's set up to be flush with the wall on the interior and protrude on the outdoor deck side. The interior is where I need help. Walls are Sherman Williams French gray with white trim. Floors are 8" wide white oak, shown unfinished but will be sanded and a clear matte finish added. It is picture framed to have tile or something on the floor. The fireplace is a non-venting gas model twilight II Indoor/Outdoor (all black). The drywall cutout in my photos is about 2/3 of actual height. I think it will need to be cut out another 12-24 inches above what is shown. There is a recessed box for TV above the fireplace. I have read some topics on this but this living room only has one usable wall for a TV. I bought a TV mount that pulls out and down so someone watching TV would not be looking way up (I hate that). I may be open to something else if in the grand scheme it works better. The wall is approximately 20' Height. The room itself is not huge about 22'x16' Should I do ledgestone, tile, something else? All the way up or just mantle height? Stone mantle, no mantle, wood mantle? Threshold? Any comments are welcome. General ideas or specific products are much appreciated. I did my normal picture searches on houzz and couldn't find many flush fireplace examples like this that went all the way up the wall....See MoreRon Natalie
