Has anyone used at at home gel nail polish kit?

Sally Hansen has a couple, one uses a polish, the other polish strips, and there are a couple of other brands, like Gelish, which is sold at Sally Beauty Supply, and Red Carpet gel nails, which is sold at Ulta. They all use a UV light to cure the polish and top coat, and it appears that removal can be a bit of an ordeal. My nails look soooo much better when they are polished, but chip within a few days, so if I could get two weeks out of an at home manicure I would be pretty happy.

I've tried the Sally Hansen strips and didn't care for them, in fact returned them to Ulta for a refund. I also use the Red Carpet kit and like it but it only lasts me about a week at which point I peel them off. I have my own uv manicure lamp, and haven't used the one which came w/the kit I purchased.

In addition I use the CND shellac products. It lasts a wk, maybe a little longer, and requires a little more effort to remove.

I'm not sure if it is these products or winter but my nails have become very weak so I'm giving them a break and concentrating on getting them in better condition before using them again.

I found the Sally Hansen gel polish kit (not the strips) on sale, so I bought it. Will probably try it tonight, and will report back.

Happens to me every time I have my nails 'done.' Tried acrylics, gels, whatever they had. I finally admitted to myself that fake nails just weren't going to work on me - it came down to the shape of my nail beds. As the nail grew, the area by the cuticle would begin to lift because my nails are curved differently in the middle or at the bottom than at the top, and the stuff they use just isn't fleixble. For a while, I would fill mine every 3-4 days, with a home use kit. Once you get the hang of it, it's really not much of a big deal. But the reason I stopped wearing fakes altogether is because when the fake stuff lifts like that, anything can get under there and start growing (it dawned on me while I was doing to dishes, for example.) It just freaked me out to think of something fungal under the fakes, where I couldn't get to it. Uggh.

Anyone with a Sears, kit/etc. home?

I recently found a very desirable piece of land with a 1920 Sears Kit Home. I appreciate the detail and quality of the home but it is only 1400 s/f and sits very close to the road. It also has an addition on the front and side which covers where the front L shape porch used to be. I really want the land and plan to build our 4000 s/f dream home further back from the road. Does anyone know if there is a market for selling this home and then having the buyer relocate it (obviously within a short distance of where I live in central Ohio). Or possibly taking the home apart and selling the individual original pieces? Some of the home is original and some has been renovated in the 70's by the couple who still lives there and is selling. I should also mention that the land has some very specific deed restrictions which prevent breaking up the land and the city will not allow sewer and septic for both homes on the lot. I wore acrylic nails for over 20 years, when my nail teck ( same one for all these years ) started doing the gels, I switched. I love them! I normallly do the french, but once in a while do the colored gels, there are many colors to choose from, just like diffrent polishes,these colors are not a surface color, so they do not fade or chip. I have a standing appointment every 3 weeks. I pay $34.00, I do not smoke or drink soda, so I rationalize this is money I can spend on myself.. My own nails are very thin, and would never have pretty nails otherwize. I keep them realatively short, but long enough to look nice, and believe me I give them a work out...I am always digging in the dirt, pulling weeds, packing rocks, and doing serious deep cleaning..they hold up just fine. Only once a a great while I will have one lift, or come off..I usually make it in tact for each appointment. They are just my treat to myself..

We are supposed to see two of our most favorite bands, Ghost and Mastodon, in Asheville on Sunday. I should be testing negative by then and DH stays clear. Send me a pm or email me at my screen name at yahoo dot com if you change your mind. These are great seats, club level, too. Speaking of manicures, was going to get a mani-pedi last weekend or this week but that can’t happen. Nini, my salon does the SNS but I’ve never tried it. My students, of course, all have the daggers. SeattleMCM, I read that somewhere that overly done nails is one of the things that identifies you as an American during travel.

If you are just wanting long lasting nail polish - I recommend Orly's Bonded - just a type of base coat - no curing, etc. - and it works.

My daughter wanted this (Thermal Spa 49135 Professional U/V Gel Light Nail Dryer) for Christmas and she has been raving about it. She had had the shellac done a few times as a freebie and wanted to do it herself. She says it lasts her a couple weeks and then peels off easily. I need to try it one of these days!

Terri ---- have you tried the Sally Hanson gel kit???
I just did a search and this thread appeared. I had gel nails done for the first time yesterday - so it has been less than 24 hours!! --- but the technician convinced me they would stay on for two weeks.
I had purchased a gift certificate as part of a nail basket at a fundraiser. I used it to partially pay for a mani/pedi yesterday. I absolutely loved this tech, loved the place --- expect that it is 45 minutes away, so I just can't go there every two weeks. I have tried several other places recently and have not been as happy. Just my luck!
Anyway, I was just thinking to see if I could do this at home.

I'm anxious, too, to hear if it worked or not, Terri. I have my nails done every 3 weeks at my nail salon, French nails done with the gel, and they last the entire 3 weeks. During the Summer I splurge now and then and have a pedi with the gel color in a pale pink. I am incredibly hard on my toenail polish, wearing sandals most of the time and that polish lasts well over 3 weeks. I'd love to be able to save money and do my own toenails.
