Neighboring commercial construction-- how much of a hit?
Comments (11)I could relate to you horror stories of beautiful homes backing onto more beautiful wood lots with strict zoning turn into beautiful homes backing onto loading docks for strip malls with auto body repair shops, a new Walmart, I could go on. But to answer your question which was; ' " Anybody with experience selling or buying such a house? How much of a hit am I really looking at? At the moment I feel like I couldn't give the house away-- although in the past I have gotten many positive comments from people who've said they love my house. I don't have immediate plans to move, by the way. We love the house and the location, commercial construction aside, is great for us" One can only deal with realities, you ask a question that can only be answered in time. Do not, I repeat do not stress yourself over the maybes in life. 7 years ago the Ontario government announced 150 industrial windmills were to be built in our county along our Lake Erie shoreline by 2013. I have a neighbour that has been on antidepressants since that announcement. No one that lives here other than the farmers getting up to 25K a year to lease the land to Samsung is happy with it. Individuals were convinced the end was near and sold below market value because they believed everything they read about abandoned homes where not even the land was worth a penny. It is the paniced that create a panic, if values drop it because sellers allow them to. 50 windmills are up and running, property values are recovering from the recession, no one is abandoning homes. But our neighbour is still freaking out. Relax and consider yourself lucky, how about a county jail instead of a nursing home?...See MoreLawnmower Races & BBQ---how much food?... Long post....
Comments (8)I usually figure about 8 oz of meat per person. When you order a portion of meat in a restaurant an 8 oz is pretty good size. Then adjust from there according to big eaters, etc. 35 lbs sounds like a LOT but if it's meat you can freeze it's better to be safe and be able to relax and not worry about it. My DH always teases me about getting too much but last summer he had his motorcycle club over for a cookout. He told me there'd be about 25 people. They came out in droves to see our new home. There was more like 50 people and they were also big eaters, taking 2 burgers as they went through the line. I about had a heart attack and sent my son in law racing to the store and driving across the lawn to get past the bikes to get more meat and buns! We ran out of condiments but there was no time for him to hunt for pickles and mustard. That won't happen to me again!...See MoreHow do you clean your hardwood kitchen floors? (X-posted on cleaning)
Comments (6)My hardwood floors are probably filthy, but look really good. I have them throughout the first floor. I sweep them daily, and run the occasional Swiffer WetJet on the kitchen portion of the floor in front of the sink, dishwasher and stove. I have tried a lot of things when mopping, and found that I prefer to use hot, HOT water and a damp rag mop once a month to get them really clean. I often have to refill the water, as it is black during this cleaning. Should probably do it more often, but I don't have the time....See MoreNew Construction (Cookie Cutter Builder) not sure how much we can do?
Comments (15)You could go for broke and spread out the kitchen. In just a few years you're going to have many potential cooks/helpers, so having separate clean-up and cooking zones, and multiple prep areas will provide space for everyone to work. Helpers could be loading or unloading the DW(s), or gathering dishes to set the table, without crossing your work space. Someone could be making lunches while you are cooking breakfast. Even now, you should consider a bigger fridge, or two 30" refrigerators. You'd even have space for a bigger range. Without measurements I don't know if this will fit, or if you have this much latitude with the layout and cabinets....See Moreworthy
