Need ideas, how to wrap large gift
Comments (20)Check out your local dollar store. I've cut up their shower curtains or disposable plastic tablecloths to use as gift wrap for large gifts. The nice thing about them is that they're tough enough to withstand the odd shapes and won't let them poke through. They also hold up well when your heavy or big package is being pushed along a floor or transported. I either gather the ends together around it, cut off the excess, tie it with a heavy duty rubberband and then finish with a big ribbon bow . . . or I use it like wrapping paper, cutting it to size and using clear package tape on it. I use that same tape to hold on a big bow. Lynn...See MoreOT but need creative juices - giving money in a fun way
Comments (18)I've used the Money Maze/Bilz Box several times (I may not have kids of my own but I've often had quite a few around with their sticky little hands out ;-)) and it always goes over well - meaning the recipient swears a lot at me while they try to solve the puzzle. *evil grin* If one doesn't take a hammer to it ;-) and hangs onto the outside box, it recloses nicely so it can be reused for someone else. Only six boxes, Mareda? ;-) Someone dear to me once did that with over twenty boxes, starting with a washing machine box and ending with a tiny box with a pair of diamond earrings (which were promptly stolen from my dorm room - people can really suck). You can keep the momentum rolling for a youngster, who might get discouraged, by taping a dollar bill to one of the inside boxes every so often. One year when DH and I were especially flush we gave my little brother - high schooler at the time - cash folded up very tiny and stuck into a walnut shell (which I admit I bought from Michaels, not being successful in getting a walnut to open nicely myself) which I painted gold and hung from a ribbon. I think I put something like "for my favorite nut" on the tag? Mom said he looked rather crestfallen thinking that stupid little walnut was his present - I think the painted walnut shell was an "in" craft that year - but she was in on it and told him to break it open. He just about croaked. Someone in the household has to be in on the joke, or perhaps in another little box you could wrap up a dollar-store nutcracker as a hint. I've use cash as a bookmark in a favorite book - I once bought a book in a used bookstore with a $50 bill stuck in the middle where you wouldn't find it unless you read the entire book! I don't do that, I leave it sticking a tiny bit out of the top. (I called the bookstore to see if they had a record of who had turned it in for credit, but they didn't, so I split the $50 with the local animal shelter.) I think that would be an especially great thing to do with a book on money management for teens/young adults....See MoreDo You Like Getting Gifts Gift-Wrapped or in the Bag
Comments (37)As long as I didn't have to clean up the mess of the shredded paper, I didn't mind wrapped. I kind of enjoyed wrapping gifts. But I do think it's a waste of money and other resources. Better to use the comics or something. You can get creative in wrapping. My sister was the first to start using bags and cheapo that I am, I'd save and reuse them. We'd give the same bag back and forth. Now I use the reusable shopping bags more and more for gift bags. It's an extra gift in itself. As far as what I'd prefer to receive? An envelope. Stuffed with cash. Large denominations. As I've said before, THERE'S a thoughtful gift! You may wrap it in money if you want. Or use cash for the tissue too if you like. Christmas is approaching. Feel free to send anytime. It's cheaper to ship too!...See MoreAbout the gift wrapping. What do you do with money or gift cards?
Comments (20)I learned I have to be careful in how I present gift cards. Once I was giving two kids gift cards attached to wrapped candy bars. I gave one to the first child and was with her as she opened it and found the GC. Her sister was asleep, so I asked her to give the other candy bar + gift card to her sister later.... I found out the sister had not noticed the GC and threw it in the trash with the wrapper. Luckily, it was still there when I told her to go look for the GC with the wrapping paper. So however clever you make the presentation, make it obvious that there is a card, too....See Moremariend
