Stainless steel appliances

Hi.

We have just installed GE Profile stainless steel appliances in a new house. In cleaning up installation marks on the stainless we found that the cleaner they provide in a 1 oz. bottle seems to be abrasive and takes off the sheen after we peeled off the blue film. Is this normal and are we going to have to buy more of this cleaner product to wipe down the entire stainless surface??

I find that the best way to keep a nice sheen and also to clean the stainless steel is to use WD-40. One should use a very small amount of WD-40 on a soft rag and then to rub it on the stainless in the direction of the grain. Then use a soft dry cloth to remove any excess WD-40 on the stainless surface, while remembering to rub in the same grain direction on the stainless.

Hmmm...I didn't get a SS cleaner w/my GE Profile SS appliances (Ref, DOs, WD, Elec Cooktop)!

I use one of two things that seem to work well:
- Pledge in the brown can
- Weiman SS Cleaner & Polish

It's the "black glaze" part that I'd eliminate. Glazing like that has a tendency to make the cabinet just look shabby and old. There's enough going on with the gray stain on the wood, no need for glaze too. You also better make sure you will be comfortable with the variegations in the wood which will come to the surface with that wash. See on the sample pic you posted of the Snowbank door how the vertical, horizontal, and center panel pieces look so different from each other? Make sure you see it IRL and imagine that all over your kitchen. Some people--maybe you--might say "how charming, I love that". Others might not. Which one are you?

Sure, if it started peeling/flaking on its own you could continue doing it, but the likelihood of it coming off uniformly all at one time is vanishingly small. If you try that, the refrigerator will look like it has psoriasis. But, hey, it's your refrigerator so you should do whatever you want with it. Just don't revisit this in a year asking how to make a scabby-looking refrigerator pristine after you've picked at or scraped the finish, and possibly also damaged the underlying surface. ;-)

Thank you for all your opinions. @Patricia. As it turns out, we are doing a Bosch dishwasher and a samsung microwave, but the refrigerator, range and hood are GE Profile. After much scouring of the internet I actually found the exact application I was looking to do with the GE range I'm looking at with a hood from a different brand. What do those of you with the trained design eye think?

Hello - we are purchasing kitchenaid black stainless steel appliances and it was suggested to us to get the Zephyr black stainless steel hood to pair with our kitchenaid appliances. However, I’m concerned that kitchenaid black stainless steel and zephyr’s black stainless steel hood may be different colors. Does anyone have these? Do they match or look noticeable different?

We bought a SS Amana refrigerator about 6 years ago and with it came a 17 oz. can of Twinkle Stainless Steel cleaner and polish. The can has lasted these 6 years. But, there are only 2 of us using the frige daily. I also purchased moistened towels at the supermarket that do a terrific job, but can't remember the name.
