butter substitution question

In a recipe with a white sauce component, can you substitute some kind of heart healthy oil for some or all of the butter? Would you use the same proportion or different since it's a liquid vs. solid fat? This is just for a casserole - nothing fancy. I'm converting from casseroles with sodium laden soups to recipes with sauces where I control the amount of sodium and other strange ingredients found in processed foods.
