Upright freezer and all refrigerator in garage - silly opinion wanted
Comments (23)A couple of years ago, Ross had great prices on those nice, flocked hangers and had a huge batch that had cream flock. It was huge to me to replace all my mismatched hangers with those matching hangers. It actually makes it easier for me to get dressed because I see my clothes instead of the mismatched hangers. I did the same in our hallway coat closet. So my lack of caring about these details in the garage doesn't mean that same mind-set enters into what is in my home itself. To be honest, for the garage, if I didn't already have my own, used fridge to put in there, I would have bought a cheap, used one at our local used appliance store that gives 90-day warranties. Depending on size/style/features, you can pick up a fridge there for anywhere from $100-400. I'd save the money on the garage appliances and put that one into something in my home itself....See MoreNew chest freezer in garage condensation build up all over the top why
Comments (4)Not unusual on the whole. Will happen if the temp of the exterior surface is at the dew-point per the humidity level. Many chest freezers run the condensor coils around the exterior of the cabinet which provides some heat to ward-off condensation but can't do that on the lid....See MoreSmall, upright freezer "garage ready." Necessary?
Comments (9)"Anna: Yes, as noted in the link above, the freezer/fridge uses the ambient temperature to determine how much to heat/cool the inside." That info in that linked article is wrong. The thermostat reads the temperature inside the unit, not outside. The reason a typical refrigerator with freezer may not work properly in a cold garage is because the thermostat is inside the fresh food section, not the freezer section. The temperature in the fresh food section is maintained usually between 40°F and 35°F ... which of course is above freezing. The compressor normally runs enough to keep the FREEZER section at 0°F while cooling the fresh section to the target temperature. The cooling coils are in the freezer section, some of the cold air from there is diverted into the fresh food section ... just enough to cool it down while also keeping the freezer section well below 32°F. If the garage is cold ... below 40°F ... for an extended period of time, there may not be enough heat gain into the fresh food section to trigger the thermostat and run the compressor enough to keep the FREEZER section as cold as it should be ... so the FREEZER section temperature will increase .. above 0°F, above 15°F, above 25°F, maybe above 32°F....See MoreCan I put Frigidaire 14.8 cu. ft. Chest Freezer in my garage?
Comments (0)Hello everyone! We ordered a Frigidaire chest freezer recently, and I was wondering if it would be okay to put it in the garage. I think our garage is insulated but not heated. Winter night temps in our area usually do not fall below 35 degrees Fahrenheit and summer day temps usually do not rise above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, although we usually get a week or so of extreme temps in the middle of August and sometimes again in early September. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you, damask_rose : )...See Morekaseki
