I know what you mean, Shermann. It's been a very long time since I made it and I finally just quit..It was kinda like when you plant zucchini and people turn their head when they see you coming. Way too much of a good thing.

Hahah! I was involved in making this amish bread and I was ready for anti-depressants over it. I was snapping at people and in a bad mood. People would say OH YEAH I want a bag!!! Then they'd say, I'll be by to get it tomorrow. Then tomorrow comes and goes and before ya know it, I was taking care of peoples bread until the day of baking, when they'd come get it finally. After I fed it and took care of it for the whole 10 days!

I was O.V.E.R. it I tell ya. So I came here asking if you could freeze it and the good people here told me yes I could.

I still have bags in the freezer. I just keep forgetting to buy pudding to make some more.

I threw mine away.
It is such an over-sweet, oily, and unhealthy thing to eat that the garbage can seemed like the best place to put it.
Tried to talk my wife into eating it as she loves sweets. She said terrible taste. After I told her the contents (recipe), she said to throw it out.
So we just turn it down. Some neighbors tried to give us some at Christmas. We politely said "No Thanks".

I also got some given to me, one of the office staff made the bread every single day for months, I think. She kept adding different fruit to make it "different", LOL.

She gave me some starter, I politely took it and just threw it away. When she asked how it went, I told her I had forgotten it on the counter and it died. She promptly offered me more, which I turned down, reminding her that she was baking it all the time and bringing it in, I didn't have to bake any. (grin) A couple of weeks later she stopped baking it and said she got so tired of it she threw it away and that she had about 20 loaves in the freezer.

So, I know you can freeze the bread after it's baked and I don't see why you couldn't just make half of the starter, it's all the same proportions and it'll start fermenting.

Well, we thought it was delicious and so did everyone who tasted it, but it was just too much all the time. It felt like there never was an end to it.

We like it, too, in all its variations, and pancakes. There is just too much of it. I'm going to cut the starter recipe in half.

Jim, I wonder why you think it's so "unhealthy?" It's just sugar, flour, oil, eggs, flavorings - all the usual suspects in baking.
