Selling BlueStar 30" Drop-In Cooktop - where to post???

I'm selling my BlueStar, but I don't know where to post it for sale. Not a lot of appliance forums floating around. I placed it on Craigslist, but I'm getting a bunch of scam email. I'm thinking ebay to. I just posted this on Craigslist yesterday, the only place so far. Just trying to figure out where you all list your appliances for sale?

I don't know how old you are but we old folks remember placing ads in newspapers. Now I know the actual papers aren't popular any more but most of these newspapers now have online ads on their websites. You are likely to get a better class of people responding to the newspaper than on Craigslist. Craigslist is full of crazies these days. I don't feel safe posting there any more.

Ebay will give you the widest exposure, but you'll have to deal with the hassle of shipping. Craigslist won't have shipping to deal with, but you'll have a higher flake factor.

In neither case will you get even close to the original price of the object. Prices usually start at 1/3 of the original price for even new open box stuff from an individual. Businesses with a reputation can usually get away with half price, but an individual doesn't have that luxury of repeat business leading to the feedback that would give buyers confidence.

Trevor would never say this himself but forget any other online dealer if you decide to go with Bluestar and just buy from him (http://www.eurostoves.com/). He's extremely active on this forum and has come to the aid of many here to solve their problems with a manufacturer even though they didn't buy it from him. With regard to the burners on the Bluestar vs Viking.. One thing you should also consider is that the combination of the star design and being open produces heat that is extremely even. AFAIK, Viking burners, even on their open models, are the traditional cap design. There is no center ring or even center air flow opening which would help to pull the flames towards the center. That means on the larger BTU burners, the heat is still more towards the outer edge rather than in the middle. Granted this is much improved with the open burners but in my experience, Bluestar still wins on even heating. Add to that the higher BTU, you've got a cooking machine. Now I've never owned a Viking open range and only cooked on one a few times at a friends house but I did cook on a restaurant range that supposedly used the same burners as the Vikings back then. Comparing what I remember from then to what I have now, I actually like my Bluestar more than that restaurant range. Bluestar is an absolute joy to cook on. pretty sure a BluStar 36" cooktop is the right upgrade in a NE rural country cottage. 1) Seems that 6 burners is more practical than grill? (I love havg 5 burners on my not-so-great Thermador drop in unit in Manhattan...and often use 5... but moreover the way it lets you space out larger pots). 2) Wd a BS propane version perfrm as well as natl gas? 3) any suggested vendors for RI or Southeastern Mass (Attleboro) or quiet corner CT (Pomfret/Danielson/ Putnam) PS I read Blue STar 24 thread and a couple of older ones in entirety. and thank you all for generous sharing. PPS may b this isn't the best thread to ask: 4) any one installed the new BS 30" oven??? by way of backgrd: had actually preselected DCS 2 yrs back (this renovation is delayed!!!) b/c of the infrared broiler + convection features. But maybe that is not the best brand...seems that an odd assortment of vendors carry it Am ok with having elect oven (espec for the cleaning cycle) tho' i like gas in general. Not a master baker so dont know if elec v gas is a factor for that. Gas of course lets you broil in the old fashioned way.

Hi, I guess I could have posted this in any of several threads about cleaning stainless steel, but since I do have the BS 36" drop-in, I thought I'd post it here. In retrospect, I might have preferred the rangetop, as castironcook2 purchased, but it was $1K more expensive and would have involved more extensive carpentry to get it into our nonstandard countertop. But I'm very happy with the new BS (just a couple of months old at this point). I am running into the cleanup issues, and I'm paying attention to your recommendations (here and in other threads). Simple detergent and water is not working for the splatters any more, so I will be looking for something stronger. There is an old SS hood above the cooktop (from the 1950s?) that was so grungy nothing would clean it. Then I recalled that I have easily cleaned my metal bicycle parts with kerosene, and since this old hood was due for replacement soon anyway, why not try it on the hood? It worked fantastically. Years of grime disappeared in seconds, and now it has a nice matte shine to it. I would feel safe using it on the cooktop too, but I'd like to try something a bit less heavy-duty first. So your suggestions are welcome.

I've had a cooktop and now have Wolf rangetop. As mentioned, the knobs on a cooktop take up cooker surface space. AND the knobs require constant cleaning because they're always collecting spatters and dust. Vs the rangetop where the knobs are on the front of the appliance & w/ the Wolf, tucked in under a ledge (don't know about the BS). We've been using the Wolf for several months and I've yet to clean the knobs! The Big Factor that pushed me to a rangetop was Cooker Surface Real Estate. I'm a stovetop cook primarily, have a garden and do some canning. With the rangetop, I can fit two large canners, front to back. Have a 36'' 4 burner rangetop w/ center griddle so, theoretically, I could fit a large pressure cooker or water bath canner on every burner. So far, I've had only two going at one time with the other burners occupied (lids on one and large stockpot of pasta sauce or tomatoes on the other.) I've not had any regrets yet about chosing the griddle over a 6 burner cooker. Griddle, when not in use, makes a good landing spot for utensils, etc. A drop in cooktop has a more streamlined look and the countertop is continuous unlike a rangetop that slides in and you have the space between the appliance & counter that can be difficult to keep clean. I've not had much problem with that...counters are temporary. When I get real counters, I'll look into those little bridge strips that fit into the seam to prevent crud getting trapped between. If you're just a casual cook, probably none of this matters but, since you're looking at hard core appliances like BS, I'm assuming that you're a pretty serious about cooking.

It has nothing to do with not understanding how to post or where to post locally, I'm more or less wondering where people here typically advertise their appliances. I'll be posting on ebay here soon. I kind of wish we had a classified section here since this would be a great place to sell.

I think it's a legitimate question since I was also pondering the best place to sell appliances. I think craigslist is probably your best bet. We just sold a OTR MW two days ago on craigslist in one day so I know it works. You can do eBay too but just say that it's for pickup only. If a person at a distance wants the cooktop really badly they can make their own arrangements for shipping but it would probably not be cost effective since packing and shipping is expensive.

jerzeegirl, it's funny that I have no problem selling anything else I have, but when it came to selling my BlueStar, I blanked. I first thought Craigslist, but I don't like dealing with all the scam junk mail I get from the post and I live in a small town and Craiglist really is not as effective.

Ebay is next on the list which I'll be willing to ship the cooktop. Thinking of waiting until after Christmas to post it on ebay. Might not be the best time of year to expect somebody to buy a cooktop.

I was hoping there was a place that most people listed their appliances, maybe a forum or something I didn't know about.

I see no problem in asking where to sell something and in fact there could be folks here that want that cooktop.
The Op is not some appliance sales person trying to sell us something,

Hmmmmmm, seems as thou Hollysprings has lost her "Christmas Spirit"?---Maybe we best just call her "Springs" until the "Spirit" "rejoins her"?

I found on CL that if you put the price in the heading, and it's more than $1, you get lots of scammers.

I found if I put the price for the item in the body of the listing, no scammers.

And yes, eBay is an excellent answer, of course with local pickup.

If you are still on the forum, can you give some feedback on this cooktop? I am considering getting a 30" with a 15" miele induction. Why did you replace the cooktop with Induction?
