Travel pros - 2 wheel or 4 wheel carrry on??

I'd like to get a new carry on suitcase, and thought that I'd like to get one of the 4 wheeled "spinners", but recently read some negative things about them. Such as they are harder to roll on carpet and rough surfaces, they don't move as quickly as the 2 wheel models, they are heavier, etc. Most of our travel is less than a week, and I prefer to take just a carryon with a piggy back tote. Does anyone have a bag that they love?

I am planning on getting new luggage before our cruise in March, and I will definitely get the 4 WHEEL SPINNERS!!!

I have friends who have them and just love them. And, if you'll notice in the airports, almost everyone is using the spinners!! Just have to find a good sale!!

I bought a spinner because I thought it would be easier to move rather than the trailing two-wheeler, but I haven't figured out how to stabilize my other two-wheeled backpack atop it. I usually end up pulling the spinner like it was a two-wheeler. Maybe I'm just uncoordinated.

Good Morning Idylls! Another early one, so I can make a quick post. I hear you V...I *live* for spring...it's my season. Oh well, I guess this year I'll live for June! :-) Now I'm wondering about when Sue's surgery is too Cynthia. I *thought* it was for Monday the 16th. I wrote it down in my calendar awhile back, so I wouldn't miss wishing Sue my best the night before, but from what I'm reading here now, I may have written down the wrong date...it wouldn't surprise me. You & Bug have Clivias?!? Oh I'm green! I am not a houseplant person, houseplants don't like me. But, if there was ever a houseplant I *wished* I could grow, *that* would be the one. Speaking of which...I just drooled over all your beautiful plant choices Bug. Your purple hellebore looks a lot like one I planted last spring. To my relief, it lived through the winter, looks to have maybe one bloom or two, but not open yet. I'm just thrilled that it made it. One of my "no-name" hellebores has made about 20 babies from my last count (that is if they didn't die from yesterday's snow). I'll check on them once the snow melts. I want to pot them up and bring them to the next place. LOL about my posting, Bug. You are probably right, but I have *so* much *fun* making them! :-) Eden - I *love* that bedroom you posted...that is sooo just the kind of style I *love*, the soft hint of colors, the lamps, the little chest (armoire?), the curtains, the vase of fresh flowers, well *everything* and that *headboard*! That is the sweetest thing! Hope you find just the right gate/trellis and will post your creation when it is all completed. I can see that being Cynthia's style too...in fact it reminds me a lot of some of the restful, beautiful home pics Cynthia has posted. BTW Eden...I *love* that pic of your GT and SS together...what a beautiful combo! Chelone So sorry about the headache with Lamee? Oh before I forget...I wanted to share this with Deanne & Drema: Up on the top shelf to the left is Deanne's Fuchsia and next to it is a pot of about 6 of Drema's coleus. On the bottom shelf to the right is a glass of Drema's cuttings! :-) I know the pics are poor, but can you tell which Fuchsia this is Deanne? It's been a blooming wonder and a real joy. A close up of some of Drema's coleus cuttings. I don't want anyone to be misled. I'm *not* a houseplant person. The only reason these plants are still alive is because they only have to be in the house for the winter....LOL! Actually the poor begonias are crying to get out of my hands and into a container outside...hope spring comes soon! Okay...gotta run...mom has an appointment at 08:30 and I'm not even dressed yet. ***"Believe all of us have one of those t-shirts someplace..."*** I was wearing mine yesterday. I recently bought a used late model Chevy pickup truck which only had one ignition key. The key has a "micro chip" embedded. The cost for an additional micro chip key is over $50 at a GM dealer. But, I can get a chipless key made for less than $10......but it will only unlock the doors......it will not work for the ignition key because unless the computer reads the correct code from the key......vehicle no start. So, I got me a chipless copy for in case I mess up and lock my keys inside the truck. I have my ignition key on a fob all by itself. I carry the chipless key on a different fob with other keys. Yesterday while out running errands, I returned to my truck to head back home and wouldn't you know it. My truck would not start. When I turned the key nothing happened, but a message on the instrument panel said "SERVICE THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM". I immediately got a bad case of despair. I called a friend who lived nearby and was familiar with late model GM products and explained to him what was going on. He asked where I was and said he would come right over to see if we could "reset" the system using the GM field procedure for that. When he got there and I showed him what it was doing was when I realized I had put the chipless copy into the ignition switch and I started apologizing to him. He just grinned and told me to put the chip key in and try it. I did and the truck started right up no problem. He said that he had not had his senior moment for the day yet but he was sure it could not be far off.

Happy New Year! Looking for some help from you veteran WH owners: I'm in the middle of a full frame-off restoration of the '89 312-8 I inherited. These machines are so well put together that most of my work will be paint, wiring and replacing some worn out bushings, etc. Question for you or any other WH owner out there: on the rear wheel mounting flanges there are two set-screws that hold each flange to the axle. The head of the bolt is square, then there is a hex nut between that and the flange casting. Is this a lock nut or is it welded on to the flange as part of the attachment? Before I go putting too much torque on these things and breaking something I'm trying to figure out how they're hitched together! I've got some play in one of the flanges I'd like to eliminate - maybe replace the woodruff key? Thoughts/tips/pointers, please?

But one thing I do know. The assistance manager is not professional or honest. 1. I took the car to repair on Thursday, there were a few people there waiting, he told me he did not have the part and asked me to leave the car for tomorrow. It was 4:00 pm. The Pep boys would not close at 9:00 pm. He said he could not fix due to partÂs availability. Afterwards I made appointment with him on Thursday after Labor Day. I called on Wednesday to ask the parts. The other people told me there are a few parts available. Based on this, I could not make the judgment for the honesty. But Â 2. Since I need to base the info to make the decision about going home or browse the stores, I asked him how long it would take, He told me a couple hours. I confirmed with him about a couple times about a couple hours waiting time, he still said a couple hours. I went to the back and ask the mechanic( no car is waiting for repair). He told me less than 45 minutes. 3. . I always have my inspection done one month before. My car inspection sticker will expire in Oct. While I drove home after I picked the inspected car , I noticed my new sticker expire in September 06. I went back to Pepboys right away, I questioned the assistance manager about my inspection expiration month . He said it is new law the sticker expire in whatever month it takes inspection. I asked him when it changed since I did my inspection one month before last year. And ask him to show me the book and confirmed whether he was sure about the expiration month. He insisted it is new law. I went back home and went to Penn Dot to search and tried to called Penn Dot. It was not office hours. I could not reach any one in the Penn Dot. I did not feel to look through all the search results on the web. I called the other Pepboys to inquire about the expiration. They all said the inspection would expire in Oct. I called back the Pepboys which fixed the car and asked for him. Some one told me he left already and then I asked for manager. Right now the assistance manager was on the phone. I told him I contacted Penn Dot. The expired month should expire in Oct. He said the Penndot closes. I emailed Penndot on Thursday and asked about the expired month. Penndot replied my email on Friday. I read the Penndot email to him. He asked me to come back Saturday. I got my new expire date on Oct on my old sticker. While the manager asked me how I am. I just wanted to ask him if he were me, how he would feel about that. The assistance manager face flushed with red and talked the law change so often Â.. I'm in airports and on planes every two weeks. From the moment I leave my house until I reach the door of the hotel room, the 4 wheels on my cheap-o Samsonite from Marshall's never touch rough/carpeted/ bumpy surfaces. What surface is rough in travel? None that I pass over.

One can push or drag a 4 wheeler but one MUST drag a 2 wheeler. With 4 wheels, the fabric never touches the ground. 4 wheels and no turning back!

Definitely the 4 wheel model. I just bought one this summer and am amazed how easy it is to push/pull. I like that it turns so easy and it doesn't transfer the weight of the bag onto your hands/arm like the two wheel does.

I went out and bought a larger 4 wheel one too, for longer trips. Check out TJMaxx or Tuesday Morning. I got one at each - excellent brands (Swiss Army and Samsonite) at more than half off the regular prices.

I am writing from Florida, where I brought my new carry on and tote. I love it. Mine is a Samsonite Cityscapes spinner. I was walking it through the airport like a dog, beside of me. No problem!! Lightweight polycarbon, or something. It is adorable. Everyone comments on it. Love the pattern of NYC on the front. Please search it. Too cute.

I do think the 8 wheeled cases are even easier but I fell for the Cityscape pattern. My Baggellini tote is huge and fit perfectly atop.

Poor Sandy. Her tote was larger than her carry on. It kept tipping over and falling. She needs to upgrade her luggage, for sure.

DH and I just got some new carryons...we got 2 wheeled at Costco They are Kirkland brand and appear practically bulletproof, and were $100 bucks each. I am a over packer, and this case looked like it was engineered to hold more than just about anything else I had seen. It has a try-fold garment bag included if you needed to bring some dress clothes.

I will say for the size and the money it sure looks like a winner.

Going on our next trip at the end of Feb, so time will tell.

I have two wheel Briggs and Riley - very much like this brand as I travel for work, check my bag and need it to hold up to baggage handler abuse. Even if you do carry on all the time you still want something that will hold up to baggage handling if you have to gate check with the small commuter planes. If I were going to buy some new luggage I would try a four wheel spinner. When you're dragging a suitcase with a briefcase stacked on top it's a lot of weight pulling on the joints of your arm which I find I'm less tolerant of the older I get.

Macy's has a big luggage closeout this week , they often do: I bought a 4 wheel samsonite that is so light, just plain black fabric .

Four wheels better than two!

I have the most wonderful German boiled wool suitcase from Bree that i rarely use now because it has only two wheels. It's square, which is not a great shape for carryon but is much, much better for packing. The four wheeled inexpensive bag from Marshall's is just so much easier to manage that it's the go-to bag now. (Pardon the Animal Farm reference, I couldn't resist.)
