Good news/bad news

Some of you know that we were trying to get a refi for the house we built two years ago. We bought it at the worst possible time, just when the market was starting to crash. We decided to do a 15 year, instead of our current 20 year, payments about the same but the principal growing much faster, 4.625% instead of 6.375%

We got a call from BoA saying that the closing was going to be in 2010. DH kept making payments and then we get another call (two days notice) that it was set to go for December 23.

Went to closing, did the paperwork, and the gal from the title company called BoA and checked if our Feb (yes, DH pays in advance :( ) payment was on the books yet. They said it wasn't and they would take care of it.

Last Monday, we get another call from BoA saying that we would have to redo the refi the very next day. The payment has shown up, was entered, and there was no way they could just send it back to us, blah, blah, blah. If we didn't show up the next day, we would lose our interest rate.

Sooo, in the short run, we're out a rather large mortgage payment. It was rolled into the new refi. We're lucky that we live within our means but we've still suffered an income drop due to the recession. Many people are living pay check to pay check and if we were one of those, this would have been devastating.

Just a piece of advice...if you are contemplating a refi, DO NOT EVER make an early payment.
