Yo-yo Quilt

I mentioned my quilt in another post I made today Luvstocraft asked me to share a picture when I'm done. Well, I'm not done yet and I'm not sure when I will be but I'll post a picture anyway :)

Here is how big it was up until a month ago. I started it last August and worked but got bored quickly.

I needed something to do last month while on vacation so I got back into it. Here is how big it was on Sept 8th. (380 yo-yo's)

That's very pretty!! I have a bunch of yoyo's made,but havn't done anything with them yet.

Very nice. Brings back memories of a clown doll that my grandmother used to make when I was young. It had stacks of yo-yos for the body, arms and legs, all strung with heavy twine. Jingle bell on the end of each leg and arm instead of hands. Sutffed fabric head with a clown hat and yarn hair. I loved those!

I'd be interested in your beading supplies, my 9-year-old granddaughter does beading. I have mostly seeds for edibles. My list is not current but could send good amounts of pumpkins, zucchini, mixed gourds, beans, ground cherries, giant gray-striped sunflowers, mixed zinnias, mixed marigolds, mixed hot or sweet peppers, I also have seeds from my silver maple and debra maple trees. You can do it either way but traditionally, yo-yo quilts didn't have a backing. Yo-yo quilts are actually coverlets and were just laid across other bedding. How big is your flag and what do you plan to do with it? Whether or not you need backing may depend on your plans. Yo-yo quilts and other items made by joining them, don't hold up incredibly well so if they are large and you plan to hang it somewhere, it will pull at the seams. They do require a lot of fixing over time. I started making a quilt about two years ago. I posted pics this fall of my progress..I was up to about 1000 yo-yo's. I haven't touched it in a few months because I grew tired of it. I'll pick it up one day and get back into it, I'm sure but for now, it's laying on the bench at the foot of my bed :)

Hi Sweets, I really don't sell, but that is good news to me. I love going to craft shows and had noticed that there were less and less handmade crafts! So many things at the shows I recognized from catalogs I had received in the mail. I hope the younger people do learn to do crafts, it is such a source of satisfaction (and a stress reliever) when you are busy creating something, Hope you post a pic of your yo yo quilt when you get it finished. Anj, LOL....well, I painted the slate, made the stitchery and flag..the table was a throw away of my BIL and ex-SIL's. Jeremy and I have had that for the last 9 years and at first I just had it because it was a table and now I have it because I LOVE it. It fits in well! The pitcher and basin, I just got that from my hubby's step grandmother. She went to live in a personal care home and MIL and FIL cleaned out her house and MIL swore she didn't have a place for the set and nobody else wanted it. I have a chamber pot on the floor and they're made by the same company so it was meant to be and the best part was, it was FREE! :) Gotta take pics of the bag yet. I started on a new project, re-doing the laundry room!

oh my achin fingers! All that needling and pulling...LOL

That looks great, I've never seen a "quilt" with them!

You can't see this very well in the picture, but it's got lots of colors. Our Relay For Life team made it and we are raffling it off.

Sweets, You are getting there! Bet it takes allot of yo yos to make a whole quilt. I had a friend who did one and arranged them like flowers--you know, yellow center then petals of pastels around the center. You can make different designs just by how you hook them together, can't you? I cut out a few circles and took them along for a hand craft on a trip, but I've never finished enough to do anything with yet! I enjoyed sitting and working on them--maybe someday I will have enough for a small pillow! Thanks for showing us your quilt. Luvs

Beautiful....I have always wanted a yoyo quilt. I have about 30 old quilts just have never ran into a yoyo. Decided I would just make my own. I got about 50 circles cut out, just cant get into it. Sure wish I could find some ready to sew.

It does take alot of yo-yo's. One of our Relay team members made almost all of them herself. Then a few of us worked and put them all together. The "putting together" part went faster than I would have thought.

They actually do have pre-made yo-yo's...on ebay. They add to them every day and they're usually done in color themes. I wondered why there were so many PERFECT looking ones and my cousin said they're probably using a machine. I prefer to make my own, though.

I also see a LOT of quilts on there that go for $40 and under. I always want to bid but don't have the money at the time or I forget.
