Yes it sounds right. My Bosch did the same after 1.5 years of use. At night. Can you believe? It pumped water into the kitchen for about 5 hours. Our new carpet in the living room survived but what a fricken mess! Anyway, replaced it with F&P dishdrawers and have not had a problem since. They have been in place 3 years.

I've heard several "local" cases of Bosch units going kablooey after about 4 to 5 years. Dead/bad pumps/motors, $250+ to repair.

Semi & Beachlily & dadoes thanks for letting me know since I keep looking at my beautiful new GE Cafe Range that was delivered late today that matches my LG Refrigerator but does not match my KitchenAid Dishwasher and feeling maybe I should have bought the high end Bosch instead so all my appliances would match. I loved the top drawer of the unit made in Germany that is similar to the top drawer of my KUDE70 cutlery top rack. I got a price about the same as the KitchenAid KUDE70 but I kept reading about smelling inside and quality control not like it used to be so I got afraid and went with KitchenAid's hidden control quiet dishwasher. I love my dishwasher but I wish it had the same easy to clean stainless steel as my new GE Cafe Range.

I am so sorry that your dishwashers lasted such a short time. It really is not fair.

Mine was about that old when it died for good.

histokitch, thanks for letting me know so I don't keep regretting my decision for matching reasons. I love everything else about my DW.

Mine is also four years old and has a number of problems. Detergent dispenser does not open, racks are falling apart and the lettering that tells you what which button you are pressing wore off eons ago. I am getting very nervous about the flooding. We live in a condo and that would be a disaster. Trying to get service was also a nightmare. We had a GE Monogram that died after a year before that so I am at a loss.

Susan, you NEED to stop torturing yourself over this "matching" thing! You LOVE your dishwasher and if it's working as well as mine, it probably amazes you every time you open the door to sparkling clean dishes (no matter how dirty the plates were and how much stuff you cram in there which can be a LOT) :) Surely you have something else you can fret over (g)

Monicakm, You are right that I LOVE my KitchenAid KUDE70 Dishwasher. Every time I do dishes, I am amazed at how clean they come out, how quiet the dishwasher is and how much more room I have since I took the cutlery basket out of the dishwasher and I only use the top cutlery shelf as well as the knife/scissors Caddy. I guess I was trying to have everything match but if I had a chance to buy the LG dishwasher with no 3rd cutlery rack or the GE Cafe Dishwasher with no 3rd cutlery rack that would have both matched my new GE Cafe Range and my LG Refrigerator (both have the same stainless steel with more nickel in it that is not magnetic and very similar handles), I would have still went with my KitchenAid due to the features it had.

Maybe I will feel happier when I have more money to change the 20 year old laminate floor, the laminate almond counters, and the oak laminate counters. All my appliances are beautiful now and my kitchen table also is very nice. My kitchen opens up to a pretty family room with Brazilian Cherry floors so I would like my kitchen to be pretty since I was patient for 12 years waiting to redo it.

I mean oak veneer kitchen cabinets in the above post in the 2nd paragraph. When the Zephyr hood arrives to go with my stove, I will post pictures and maybe others can help me make the kitchen prettier with before I make those changes. I still have to post pictures of my BC floors in three rooms downstairs. I have been in so much pain still from that car accident so please forgive my sentence structuring.

I am still wondering if the Germany made new high end Bosch Dishwashers will start a trend of quality with Bosch as well as quiet and efficient?

Are the German Bosch dishwashers different than the American DW?

The German Bosch Dishwashers are making a model not made in America so I am wondering if they are trying to produce a model with quality control and win back customers?

I am so unhappy with my DW I don't know if I could be won over by Bosch.

Thanks for letting us know barbara48 of your unhappiness with Bosch's dishwasher which is making me more happy that I chose my KitchenAid KUDE70 dishwasher despite knowing the Bosch would be a better match with my other appliances. I kept thinking if I went with the German made newest model (got a great price on it but I still chose the KitchenAid due to the extra room), it would have been made well, I would not be worrying about melting plastic and I would have had it match better with my other appliances.

Actually, you would now be worrying as I am about having a flood in your condo which would drip down to the floor below and ruin their kitchen.I hate, hate, hate to trash a 4 year old Bosch but I think the day is coming.

Wow, my nephew got a Bosch DW on my recommendation last year (everybody on GW was raving about them) so now I've got my fingers crossed that theirs will last at least until the baby starts kindergarten! I'm really shocked at hearing they don't last.

Expensive and High end has nothing to do with quality or determination on how long something will last.

You are much better off getting 4 run of the mill DWs than 1 Bosch (or other expensive machine). But the hype of high end, pro look, etc has brainwashed everyone. More about show than go. I know people who buy machines and fridges for the look and nothing else??

FWIW, my 7 year old Bosch is alive & well & has been problem free the entire time. If it or any other major brand had died after only a few years, I would have been major P.O.'d - to the point that the manufacturer would have gotten an earful regardless of the warranty!

I actually called Bosch and they came out and ordered parts. However, either the tech didn't fix it right or he didn't replace the arts because it is just the same. I did yell at them but they seemed unconcerned. I don't think they care. Many of the problems seen to be the same. I wish I could replace them myself.

Well I have TWO Miele DW in my kitchen.

One is FIFTEEN years old and still works perfectly. It was in our old house, moved to our new house 12 years ago and now is in our new kitchen

We were so happy and impressed with it that we bought a Miele for the second DW as well and so far are just as happy.

Any service required, and there have been maybe three occasions, and a Miele service tech has come out and fixed it with a smile and about $100.00. A couple of times it has even been taken care of by Miele tech support on the phone with a replacement part being sent and a step by step walk through with a tech.

I honestly know from my own experience that Miele products, while high end, are well made and have an excellent customer support team who stands behind every product they sell and they last and last.

wow! i always just read the kitchen forum but, since stuff is kind of slow over there due to the holidays, i checked out appliances. i totally thought bosch was the way to go with a dw. guess i will be saving up for a kitchen aid.

If you have looked at a Bosch and the typical US brand dishwasher side by side, you would be shocked at the difference. I replaced a mid range GE in our current house with a Bosch built Kenmore a few years ago. The difference in construction quality was like night and day. Where the GE was flimsy, the Bosch was solid. There was simply no comparison. The Bosch cleans better and is much, much quieter.

All that said, we just ordered and installed a new Bosch for our new house. The apparent quality is still far ahead of the junk GE models, but isn't what it used to be. I think Bosch quality is slipping. The new rack system just plain sucks. They appear to be cheapening their products.

Frankly, I no longer know what to recommend--in any appliance category. Disgusted with the major brands, we bought a Speed Queen TL washer and dryer set. We still need a refrigerator and are dreading the decision we have to make.

One had several repairs, and we finally took the tech's advice and refused additonal repair and got a replacement. It has worked OK, but we don't use it all that much.

The other DW died after 4 years or so. It was never installed properly and the frame was bent. We replaced it with a Miele.

The Miele is so much more solid, just to look at, it was like comparing a tank and potting shed. It has worked perfectly now, and we much prefer it to the remaining Bosch.

FWIW, on HVAC forums Bosch has similar reliability problems with their on demand HW heaters.

Kind of a sad comedown for a great name. Those of a certain age will remember what a great Lager Loewenbrau used to be, until they signed a deal with Miller to bottle it in the US. No one drank that twice.

I want to thank the Kitchenaid owners on this and other threads for their consistent loyalty to their brand - and lack of horror stories.

Also, when I read about other people loving their dish drawers, I get sad - but the main thing we want is a dishwasher that does NOT LEAK WATER into our cabinets, under the floor or anywhere else!

I'm thinking people should plan to replace DW's every 5-6 years if they want to avoid disaster, right?

Well a friend and neighbor bragged to me on the day mine died (original post) that her EIGHT year old Bosch was going strong. She slightly implied that perhaps I didn't wash my dishes carefully enough before loading thus causing my troubles.

Well not two weeks after my original flood she called in a panic as her model just did the same thing--flooded her kitchen and basement!

I'm still at a loss over what to do for a replacement. I continue to use my model and hope it holds me until demo. I suppose if I didn't have my entire renovation ahead of me I wouldn't be still using this machine.

Hi, I purchased a Bosch DW about 4 months ago after researching GW and reading lots of positives. Mine has been working great so far. I had a Maytag before that. It bit the dust after about 4 years, noisy as all get out. I can't believe how quiet my Bosch is. I just hope it holds up, these posts are scaring me!
I had a Kitchen Aid Clothes Washer that only lasted 5 years and we are only a family of 3!

You know, I think dishwashers are a crap shoot. That's why we decided to spend less on this one (and I hope we remember to replace it before it goes south).

The symptoms began with water left in the bottom after a wash. The next wash didn't run at all; the Cycle Countdown read 2H and didn't change and the washer remained mostly quiet, (an occasional, barely audible gurgle could be heard). I took the control board out to find that a solder joint was burned, just like the link above shows. I followed the instructions at the link, (just re-soldered the joint), put the board back in, (you have to keep track of where each plug goes when you pull them to remove the board), and it worked. I hope to get another 5 years out the Bosch. If not, I did shop shop for a new machine and liked the Electrolux - sturdy racks inside. If I find a good sale, I might just buy it and store it till the Bosch dies.

Wow, that is really sad. IMHO, any DW, regardless of cost, should last longer than that. Hopefully much longer than that!

About 10 years ago when my (never-very-good, bottom-dollar) GE DW bit the dust, I did a lot of research before buying another. CR reported a Kenmore Ultra Wash Tall Tub, made by Whirlpool, as being a Best Buy.

My DW had gone kaput right before the holidays (another huge pain, as I do a lot of cooking and baking from November - December), but I waited until January (maybe early February) to buy, partly because I didn't want to use Christmas money on a DW and partly because I was hoping for a great buy.

As it turned out, I found the very model CR recommended, on sale at a big discount. IIRC, it cost about $400. DH and I bought it on the spot, and it has been absolutely the best DW I've ever owned.

I never have to prewash anything -- not even prescrape if I don't feel like it. Everything comes out spotless, from glassware to pots and pans. I especially appreciate the internal water heater and moveable/removable/divided/covered silverware baskets. I hope it lives forever. :-)
