replacing upright freezer

The appliance repair guy told us that our 5 year old GE freezer has a freon leak and needs to be replaced. We are leaning towards another manual defrost freezer, even though the frost-frees have alarms if the freezer malfunctions and temperature controls on the outside of the freezer. However, the manual defrost uses less energy and I assume does a somewhat better job of keeping things frozen. The only 2 models we can find are another GE or a Frigidare.

Any suggestions on which is better? Any other bad experiences with GE or Frigidare freezers? Or opinions about frost free vs. manual defrost?

Thanks, we used this forum alot when we built our house and bought all our new appliances 5 years ago.
