Purchase big appliance on Ebay

Hi

I am in the process of remodeling my kitchen, and need to buy kitchen appliance.

Does anyone have expereince in buy walloven, dishwasher and hood on Ebay? I know most of the items are new and discountinued, but not sure if it is risky to make such a big purchase on Ebay. I will definitely use my credit card to make payments, but would like to know if anyone has good or bad experiences with this.

Bought our FP dbl oven from Fredericksons' Appliance, user name Saving-u-money, on Ebay. Excellent communication and quick shipping, even though clear across the country. The oven looks perfect (it's not installed yet). They also have one other user name on Ebay and a website at buy-appliances.com. If I didn't have a trusted appliance dealer to work with for our other appliances, I probably would have bought more on Ebay. My sister bought a whole kitchen full (and laundry room) of high end appliances from another Ebay dealer 2 yrs ago...She's very happy with all of them and the wonderful and helpful service she received.

My only concern is whether or not the seller is an authorized dealer. I was looking at a Miele speed oven and could have saved $500 off list, but was concerned that not using an authorized dealer voids the warranty. Of course nothing may go wrong with any unit you purchase, but for me it wasn't worth the unknown. While the sellers listed by rhome have good feedback, you have to realize that if there is a problem a month after you leave feedback, you cant alter the feedback. Ultimately, you have to decide if saving some money is worth it to you in not dealing with bricks and morter.

We purchased our subzero freezer drawers, trash compactor, icemaker and warming drawer on eBay. No problems and no problems getting full warranties. Oh, and our double ovens! We also purchased dishdrawers from a supposed reputable seller, but paid about $165 extra for their advertised in-home delivery. The seller sent them regular ground and they arrived while we were on vacation, damaged. They had not even purchased insurance for the shipment. We refused the shipment, they threatened to sue us, and the shipping company discovered that they 'always' sent their shipments ground, uninsured. Their actual cost for sending the dishdrawers was less than $50. Saving-U-Money was very reputable, we also used Cutting-Edge Appliances with no problem whatsoever.

Biggest word of warning to anyone buying from EBay retailers----always use a credit card. NOT a debit card, and not PayPals, and not a check. A credit card. A few years ago, one company took off with about $5 million in money for promised SubZero and Wolf products. They didn't take credit cards and had people send them ***certified*** checks. Don't know what happened to that court case. But you get tremendous protection by buying with a credit card for major purchases.

Couple of revashelf items: significantly reduced even from the discount prices in both cases (Blind corner half-moon swingout for $25 and the new 5" base pullout for $103), and both arrived in record time with reasonable shipping for such heavy items (under $25 to ship, both times) Faucet: Item never arrived. I kind of had warning bells when I bid simply because it was an item unlike most of the sellers prior auctions and their feed back was below the 99% I usually require, but I wanted the faucet. Thankfully, Paypal has jumped in and since the seller - following a rash of "item not received/poor communication" feedback in the weeks following my own purchase - deleted their account, it is very likely I will be covered for the full amount by Paypal's protection system; I'm hopeful for a good outcome. And (shhhh... ;) I think I like my second-choice faucet better in the end, so with luck it will bea case of all's well that ends well. Also, I must say that having made many purchases on ebay over the last few years, this the first time either my husband or myself have had ANY kind of problem.

Craigslist is about as good as it gets. But, be sure you're pricing it appropriately. It's like pricing a brand new used car. Once it rolls off the lot, the value drops dramatically. 50% of what you paid is a good place to begin the price.

Easy to find out if they are an authorized dealer by checking the manufacturers' websites. As I said, the particular ebay seller I purchased from does have a brick and mortar store, just not nearby. I agree that it wouldn't be advisable to order from anyone not authorized to sell that brand. For me the $1800 savings on the oven was a big motivation, and a risk we decided to take after reading such good reviews for the seller, not just on ebay, but here, too. --And, the oven has the manufacturer's warranty. The local brick and mortar store I bought everything else from doesn't do their own service anyway, so any problems with their appliances or the ebay one will have to go through the manufacturer and a repair company they authorize...So it's important to know the manufacturer's customer service reputation, too.

I recently bought a Thermador 36" pro series hood on ebay (no Blower) and I purchased it for $1300 including shipping... Came in perfect condition etc.... just make sure you are buying from a reputable seller with tons of positve feedback
