I scoop up the peas with my arm and gently lift and hold them against the support on one side, then feed the twine around them with the other hand. Whilst holding the twine in place, I then go round to do the next arm full. This is much easier if one person does the scooping/lifting and the other does the twine and tying off. Depending on how many peas you have planted (and yours looks quite densely planted), there is a smaller or larger 'bulge' of peas around the support. They will not grow neatly inside the support and stay inside the support. Also they are nearly as wide at the top as they are at the bottom, so with a support that is teepee shaped, the top vegetation will definitely bulge and not grow inside the teepee. If you squeezed the plants to fit, you would squash them at the top. The only way is to feed the twine around the peas, then fix the twine to the support. Left to their own devices, peas would just sprawl on the ground. Flora's advice to give them sticks as well as teepees certainly helps getting them started upright, rather than sprawling. You could also criss-cross twine diagonally between the legs of the support to coax them into an upright start that way. Good luck

Let me just say I'm right there with ya--I have a side by side and I just HATE it. I really miss my bottom-freezer drawer I had in my old house. I found with the frige on top we wasted a lot less food. To at least help us eliminate wasting time searching for stuff, I've started LABELING dedicated space for certain items, especially in the doors. I also containerize within the space if possible. The more OCD I get with it, the less we waste! The tippy top door-bin has the plastic cover. I keep butter/lard up there as well as the tube of tomato paste, yeast packets, and that broth-concentrate that comes in a jar. In the top rack of the door I have labels for the mayo, jelly, and the cream/creamer. Other stuff can be added, but not a the expense of the labeled items. The second door-rack down is large enough for a gallon of milk, but I don't use it for that. I've got it labeled "Condiments" since those are the little things that are just too easily lost in the backs of the main shelves and then fall over when you have to shift items. Incidentally, when I did the actual organizing not too long ago, I discovered that we had SEVERAL duplicates opened--presumably because the first open jar had gotten "lost" in the vast wasteland that is the side-by-side. Grrr.... The third rack down is labeled "Salad Dressings" and also holds bottles of wine. Awesome shelf :) The bottom rack is very narrow and is labeled "Syrups" for pancake and Hershey's syrups. Kids can reach by themselves. Great. Now for the main cavity: The top shelf has about 10" of space, and is for stuff I don't use too much, like the buttermilk mix. Cut/cleaned celery and chicken broth live up there too. I try not to keep tiny items there, or they get lost and forgotten. The second shelf has 6.5" of space and is for the eggs, yogurt, sour cream, etc. The third shelf has about 12" clearance and is for milk, OJ, other liquids, and for leftovers. (Your containers make a difference! I finally just caved in and purchased a complete set of rubbermaid that stacks and interlocks so I could save frige space. It was well worth the $20.) The lowest shelf has just over 7" of space. It is for salads, canned sodas, large fruits like cantaloupes, and for a special container I labeled "Sandwich Fixin's." Now, when you want to do sub sandwiches, just pull out this bin (an old refrigerator egg-container w/o the egg compartments) and you have all of your peppers, oils, special mustards, etc. right there. That saves several trips back and forth to the frige and works great! Top drawer is thin. It's for deli meats and cheeses. Middle drawer is for fruit and veg. I use containers to subdivide that drawer or it gets to be a mess and things get lost and rot. The bottom drawer if for raw meats. It does have a temp. control, so at least I can keep the meat partially frozen. I figure that buys me an extra day or so before it goes bad. The other thing I try to do is NOT TO OVER-BUY. I went ahead and took some shots of the interior as it is today. Luckily, it was already pretty clean! Sadly, I cannot say anything nice about my freezer. It is a MESS. Thanks, everyone, for your kind words. This was truly a labor of love. The DIY had nothing to do with saving money. We just like doing things ourselves. Plus, it makes you feel like you really accomplished something. Bemsue, yes, I love the Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations product. I have done two bathroom vanities, three pieces of bedroom furniture, and one kitchen with it. It is very similar to a gel-based stain in texture, but it is water-based. It covers more fully than a stain, though. The one thing I don't like is the water-based poly you put on at the end. It is hard to work with, but I made the best of it. I supposed I could've bought another brand of water-based poly. Using that product on a kitchen is not for the faint of heart, though. It took so long to do all that painting. You have to do two coats of paint on each door, front and back. Then the poly coat on top. I guess I can say that all the work was worth it, but I don't know if I'd have the nerve to do it again. The bathroom vanities and furniture didn't take long to do, though. Kellienoelle, I cannot commit to knobs/pulls yet. I was going to just put brushed chrome round knobs, but you can see that the long drawers on the right side would not look right with round knobs, and I didn't think I wanted any pulls in the kitchen. So I am at a standstill on that. Lillyvt, I appreciate your honest feedback about the stools. I know they probably don't fit aesthetically, but we bought those when we first moved in here, and they are very functional. They support your back, swivel, move up and down, are vinyl and easy to clean, are comfy, and support a lot of weight. So for now we are keeping them. Gardenpixie, the size of our island is 51" x 28". The space from island to cabinets is 33" on the left and 32" on the right. As far as the 3 floor-to-ceiling pantries next to the fridge goes, my opinion is it may be too heavy since you won't have the lower counter next to the fridge, but who knows, it could look amazing. I have spent countless hours both in this forum and on other websites looking at kitchen pics. I don't know why I decided on black for the cabinets. My husband painted the kitchen cabinets in our old house white, and I wanted something different. White shows dirt easily, yellows with acrylic + water-based poly over it, and shows cabinet imperfections more. I debated on doing a dark brown/espresso color, but ultimately decided on black. Black isn't done a lot in kitchens, and I wanted to do something different. Because of the crown moulding on the cabs and my valance, pendant, and cat picture on the wall, I think it still has a feminine touch without looking too masculine and modern. I'm not quite sure I like the color of the island, but I just didn't think it should be black. It bugged me how our "before" kitchen was so monochromatic and orangey-looking. It needed some contrast and a dark color to anchor it. My husband still wants to install a commercial pull-down spiraly faucet. We are having trouble finding one since the ones we looked at don't seem to pull down that far.

We opted for the 20" KA Counter depth fridge, after having a standard top freezer model for the past 5 years and a SxS prior to that. We really love it. Yes, it is smaller but as many others have said, we don't "lose" food in the fridge. It is super easy to clean and it has just enough space for our day-to-day items. We also love the water feature within the fridge. We are a family of 3 so it works for us. I will say that the management of condiments has been a challenge. We already had an extra overflow fridge in our garage that we use for drinks, extra containers of milk, watermelons, picked fruit, etc. as well as other items we keep in the freezer. I don't know if we'd be as happy with having the counter depth fridge as our only option in our home.
