Anyone miss the old Aleene's Craft shows?

I do and found this link on Google I checked out the different links inside and they don't work. Does anyone hve any current info on the girls or Aleene?

I never got to watch many of the shows or record them back then. I did subscribe to the magazine years ago, eventually threw them away. I still have two books: Aleene's Prizewinning Crafts: and Aleene's Craft Quickies. At one time I was a member of Aleene's Big Book Of Crafts Club. Still have the binder, though.
Anyway, it's was fun to flip through the books, and the interesting thing to find was that shrink plastic is still going strong with quite a few crafters :-)

The last I heard, Aleene had retired and bought a hotel in the Palm Springs area. Her daughter Tiffany was starting a sort of women's retreat there, and I think the other daughter was going to be joining them.

I used to get an email newsletter, but DH put a new Spamblocker on my computer, and I haven't gotten it since then. Wish I could remember what it was called, but don't remember.

Wonder if we could google Aleene's Glues and find any info? Might be worth a try.

I always liked their shows because they did things that were not terribly expensive yet always looked really nice.

What a fun thread! I made the loop potholders as a little girl. I liked to polish sticks up and desparately wanted a rock tumbler but my parents said it was a gimmick and wouldn't buy me one. (A couple years ago i visited CalamityJ and she gave me one, finally!) I was so excited when I learned to sew in 8th grade at school. I taught myself to embroider around the same time, my mom embroidered but didn't sew. My Memere (Mom's mom) did everthing, and very well. I also one of those plastic children's looms as a little girl but I wasn't very good at it. I remember the knitting knobby but didn't do well with it. I just saw some things - necklaces- at the farmers market made out of those "ropes" from the knobby today! Somewhere along the way I learned to knit and crochet, but I prefer crochet. I used to make and sell terrariums in Almeden wine bottles. And I macrame'd in my late teens and early 20s. I had one of those piggy banks made from a bleach bottle made by my Memere. My other grandmother was a cook and a gardener, but she got one of her friends to crochet clothes for a little doll that I still have and love. One Christmas my mom and Memere knitted me a whole shoe box of beautiful Barbi clothes. Memere made my Chatty Cathy an incredible wardrobe as well. I think many of these things are still at my Mom's house. My mom gave the old doll carriage that had been hers and then mine to my niece, her grandaughter, and I haven't dared to ask her what happened to it now that she is grown up. My Memere made a little quilt for it to go with when it was passed on to me, and I wish I had that little quilt. I have some of my Mememre's quilts, and I have an unfinished one that I started for me. In more recent years I decoupaged a lot, especially some lamps. I scrapbooked a lot for several years, now I'm wondering if I should get rid of the supplies. And I have so much glass for the plate flowers and totems, and molds for concrete objects. Now I am mosaicking. I wonder if I'll ever settle on one or 2 things? Kathy

I am so glad to hear of all the successes on shows! Christopher...you are so so right on the tips you gave! I have been doing these shows for 20 years and the BIGGEST and I mean the BIGGEST tip I can give anyone is STAND UP and GREET every and I mean every customer that is at the table! Even when kids come to look, talk to them, they will then go to the parents and ask for money! I am a stickler on that. My Boyfriend of 4 years goes with me and helps me so much. But at the beginning, I had to tell him to stand up, talk to people. NOW, he sees exactly what I mean! I know at the end of the show you will be tired but better to be tired wth a full wallet than relaxed with an empty one! The other thing I HATE is to walk up to a table, and see the Vendor with their mouth full of food. OMG that bothers me. When we eat our lunch or what have you, we walk away from the booth one at a time to eat. My other advice, always straighten up your display! People will pick things up and then almost always not put them back the way they were....I am constantly, when there is not a crowd, re-arranging and straightening out my displays. I have learned in all honestly, that the more items I display, the more I sell. I have things priced from $1.00 to $35.00 and if it wasn't for the smaller priced items at some shows, I'd come out with nothing. Anyway, just a few tips too! I hope you all do well at your shows. One of the best and easiest things to do is to engage every one who passes your booth in some kind of conversation. Smile, say hello and give them some kind of compliment on what they are wearing, their haircut, how cute their kids are, etc. I found that it made people pause a little longer and actually take a look at my crafts. Also, bite your tongue and continue to smile when someone makes an insensitive remark about your items or display. I was lucky and had a large variety of items for sale but there are always people who will just breeze by your display without even glancing at it. I found that people overlook things even tho they are right in front of their faces - if you put the same item at a few different places in your display it will help. It will be tiring but fight the urge to sit behind your table - stay on your feet and tell potential buyers to ask if they have any questions. Good luck.

I try to be up at 4am to watch Highway Patrol with Broderick Crawford and all the great 50s cars! Two-door squad cars... never saw one in real life but maybe they had them in California where it's supposed to take place. I remember watching Amos 'N Andy after school. It's downright sick that they pressured that show into hiding. So many other shows are far less politically correct but this is an example of hysteria ruling the masses. Here's over 5 hrs of Vintage TV faturing an episode of: Jack Benny Show, One Step Beyond, You Bet Your Life, Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Red Skelton Show, Dragnet, Milton Berle Show, This is Your Life, Andy Griffith Show, Mr & Miss North, Soupy Sales Show and more. Gotta love the internet, and the stations like THIS and MeTV for keeping this type of classic television around for those of us who appreciate it. Mr. Ed, Patty Duke Show, Beverly Hillbillies and all of them.

I miss that show terribly. I learned so much!! I absolutely adored Marcie and Patti from Hobby Lobby. You can still find Patti at www.pattiwhack.com.
I didn't like the last 2 years when it was mostly advertising stuff but the earlier years when they really crafted.
Aleene's name was purchased by Duncan Crafts and they still sell her products. www.aleenes.com belongs to them, not to Aleene.

Aleene sold her hotel and is now back in Santa Barbara. From what I understand they are working on a new show, let's keep our fingers crossed!
Heidi has her own website and still crafts and has other business interests. www.heidiborchers.com

Thanks for all the new info I'll be looking up those links
I have about 25 VCR tapes I made of things they did on various shows (that's a lot of crafting)

I didn't even know there was such a show. Even though I'm at work during the day, I miss Carol Duval on HGTV.

I miss Aleen's alot. I taped so many of her showes when I could I would set and stop the tape when a commerical can on it was a thirty min. show after all the breaks.LOL. the show was on for a hour.there was a lot of good ideas on her show.

Can someone give me info on Aleene's Creative Living Books on Fabric Stiffner bows? Where can I find Aleene's fabric stiffner and draping material?

Loved Aleenes! That show gave me the confidence to start crafting, and I enjoyed many snowy afternoons crafting with my young daughter.

I have used Aleenea's products for years and just recently found an ad of hers showing a flower that she used a porcelain product of hers on it. I cannot find the product anywhere and wondered if anyone knew what it was or knows what else would do the same job?
