I haven't used this one but I'd like to enable, I LOVE my digital scale! I use it all the time, my lastest use for it is weighing my ground coffee(exactly 2 oz for full pot) so I have the perfect pot every time! No guessing if scoop is just right :) YOU NEED!

And if you are still looking for a deal, check your store for the cast iron cookware. Two stores near me have it marked down to $14.99. They had the skillet, the grill pan and the roaster/baker.

Digital kitchen scales make weighing out ingredients incredibly easy because the tare feature lets you place your mixing bowl on the scale and then add ingredients successively to it, just pressing the tare button to reset to zero after each addition.

The Aldi scale is well designed. The platform covers the scale completely to prevent errors which can arise from items partially resting on the body of the scale. The ad doesn't state that the scale can display either ounces or grams but I've never seen a digital scale which didn't.

The price is surprisingly low. I would expect to pay at least twice that price. Get one.

I second the recommendation. I've been using mine a lot since the last time Aldi sold them, and I like it.

So, I get dressed and run down to Aldi for the scale...they are sold out, crud!! However, they did have a much needed hot/cold therapy pack.

I didn't get there for the cast iron cookware a couple months ago - it was all sold out a couple weeks later when I did. Specials sell fast around here. (heavy sigh) Oh well, I'm sure they'll have it again.

Actually I've asked them before to call the other stores & check on items for me if they're not busy. You can't get the number to call yourself of course but they were very accommodating for me when I've asked. Save a trip that way too.

Digital scales are not exactly digital. The most important component, the "load cell" is actually analog in operation.

The load cell accuracy can drift over time and can be voltage (battery) sensitive as well as temperature sensitive.

You may want to do this:

1. Measure the same weight at room temperature and then in the refrigerator to see if it is consistent.

2. Making sure your battery is not too old.

3. Measure an item, say a coin, and record the weight. Using this weight as a standard to verify that your scale's accuracy has not drifted over time. Some scales will allow you to re-calibrate.

I'm sure what you say is correct, dcarch. However, I have more confidence in a digital kitchen scale than a spring scale, especially when weighing small amounts. Am I wrong in assuming the so-called digital scale is more accurate?

BTW, I make a practice of storing my digital scale unloaded, under the assumption that being under load for extended periods of time might cause the transducer (which I just learned from you is a load cell) to go out of calibration. Good idea or not important?

A spring scale is not a bad device. Over time, metal fatigue will cause the spring to sag, but there is a little screw adjustment some place for you to compensate for that.

The advantage an electronic scale has over a mechanical one is higher resolution. You can get 1/10th to 1/100th of a gram resolution, which a mechanical one cannot achieve.

A mechanical scale is in general lineal in response, whereas with an electronic one you are not very sure with the cheap ones.

A mechanical scale�s spring response is subjected to temperature changes, and an electronic scale is normally temperature compensated by using a thermistor type of device.

As you have indicated, a great advantage with electronic scales is the feature of auto-zeroing to subtract the weight of the container. I suppose this will cancel out some problems of the load cell going out of calibration.

I believe the load cell is a resistive device, and therefore may not be classified as a transducer.

A fulcrum balance type of mechanical scale eliminates a lot of spring type scale�s problems.
