Annie, I expect to hear of your catering business plans soon! We simply can't have you sitting around the house eating bon bons and watching soap operas.

After all that experience catering redneck weddings and non-redneck weddings, plus numerous family picnics and making specialty cakes and decorative cookies, we are expecting big things of you, ya know? All you need is a few more large Nesco roasters and you'll be ready for any crowd! LOL!

Annie, FYI and for Ashley, I have IBS and it is very non-typical, just causes pain, no other symptoms. Intense pain but it doesn't last and goes away. Best diet is minimal food, emphasis on sticky fiber, not rough fiber. Things like fruits and oatmeal, not wheat bran. I also had ovarian cysts that were painful but went away without needing surgery. Of course ulcerative colitis or chron's disease is always a possibility--hard to diagnose, hard to treat, but sometimes just goes away on its own and can be somewhat managed. My friend's pancreas swelled up once, she was in the hospital and everything, they had no idea why it did that, and then it just went away! I agree with what Spacific said, go alternative, try acupuncture. Doctors aren't very good with treating these nebulous systemic problems, IMHO. Best help comes from talking to others who have been in a similar situation and gotten things under control. This has been my experience with migranes and my dad's experience with ulcerative colitis. Above all, avoid the doctor's favorite pill for nebulous maladies--steroids! Too many long term side effects. If they don't bring it under control right away then the diagnosis is probably wrong and they need to be stopped. I cannot begin to tell you the damage I have seen with friends and family taking steroid medications. Yes, they can be a godsend, but they are not a long term solution.

Annie, I took all the oils and the penzey's spices on vacation and they were great. We have been on a bit of a from scratch pasta sauce kick and the basil oil meant we never had to buy fresh basil for just a tiny amount. I have also been quickly depleting the garlic oil, so good over broccoli with butter and a splash of soy sauce. I used the lemon oil in Tomato Basil butter the other day and it was a real time saver. I think I will be ordering oils soon :-) Although I did find the garlic oil in Trader Joe's on the cape. I look forward to the champagne vinegar as well, this whole package is so wonderful. I even found a source for unripe apples next year so I can try a greater selection of the recipes from my new cookbook. Good friends who are always happy to eat my jam have an apple tree on their property. Ann, you are right the box was huge, I used it to send out my swap package. So my swap partner will be receiving a well traveled box. -Robin

Ann T, Cooper is loving having me home more than anyone else, I think, although Makayla and Bud are having a ball playing with me. Elery, well, I'm not so sure, LOL. dcarch, I can't get actually livestock other than the cattle and horses, which can get a week's worth of food and water at a time, until I move out there. We'll get feeder pigs from one of the 4H kids in the spring and slaughter them in the fall, but breeding stock will have to wait until I'm actually living there. I'm kind of leaning toward Mulefoot hogs, as they pasture well, we'll see. I sure want to make some more homemade bacon, though. The Poulet de Bresse rarely makes it out of France, but there is a Canadian variety of the Bresse called Blue Foot. It was nearly eradicated during the Avian flu scare but I understnad remaining stock is in California, so maybe, someday. The flavor is supposed to be far superior to other varieties. Having never eaten it, I can't remark on that. The girls do want to get some laying hens though, all different varieties, LOL. As long as I get good fresh eggs, I guess I don't care, I'd get half a dozen different heirloom varieties but they have to be sturdy enough to withstand Michigan winters without frostbite to their combs, etc. So, big gardens, fresh eggs, farm raised pork, oh yeah, I'm looking forward to eating well. And, of course, Elery is planning an outdoor, wood fired bread/pizza oven. Annie

seems as if there is lots here to clink to tonight! of COURSE i've already raised a toast to annie and elery--and i'll look forward to seeing pictures of the happy couple tomorrow--cheers! bubbe has her arthur home and we all know how tough trips to the hospital can be--especially on the spouse. it's great to know that things are as they should be again! but i want to clink again; this time for susie. with extra best wishes that your family continues to gain strength and improve every day. i'm very, very happy to know your little girl with be returning soon as i'm sure that will be an extra special treat for you! and here's hoping that everyone else has something particularly wonderful to enjoy this weekend--clink!

Well, no soap operas because I cancelled satellite TV months ago, so now I have no TV to watch soap operas, and I seem to have run right out of bonbons. Darn it, I just didn't think ahead. (grin)

Cooper doesn't sleep in Woodie, although I wish he did. My alarm normally goes off at 6:30 am. Cooper didn't get me up until 6:45, so I guess that was kind of sleeping in. I had coffee made and took Cooper out to play fetch before 8 am.

I spent the morning surrounded by stepmother's financial paperwork that her federally subsidized housing center needs for "rent control". Nancy (wizardnm) called about 11 a.m. Elery called right after that and then I spent about an hour on the phone with his insurance company and my doctor's office getting added to his insurance. I went back to stepmother's stuff and got a phone call from the county, they'd "forgotten" to do my exit interview. Could I come in tomorrow at 11 am? Yeah sure, but only because I want a big check for vacation payout. After that I'll go to stepmother's to count out her meds, shovel her snow, take her grocery shopping and get her dog's nails trimmed.

Wednesday Ashley wants to go to the craft shops, she's been making and selling little girls' tutus and hair ribbons and beanie hats and such. She needs supplies.

so, what am I cooking? Just coffee, so far, but I did get a call asking me to bake 100 dinner rolls for a funeral dinner on Saturday and Elery wants me to come down there and I want to get this cabinet in my dining room cleaned out so I can get rid of the huge, dark, ugly monstrosity and paint.

So, I think I'll have leftover paella for supper and I haven't cooked a darned thing today, except coffee.

I need to see Ashley's beanies ribbons and tutus. My granddaughter Callie is two and a half today!

Aw, CC, I love that age, they're just so darned cute!

Ashley made matching tutus for Makayla and her American Girl doll, LOL, and here headbands with big flowers are very popular. I think they look funny, but the kids love them.

I'll see if I can remember to take a picture of Ashley's "craft room" tomorrow, she has bows and tutus hanging everywhere! She's been having fun, though, having "trunk parties" at people's houses and her Dad is going to let her open a "boutique" in the back of his new store building. You knew she was enough like me that she'd do something while on maternity leave, didn't you? (grin)
