How deep are your mudroom lockers?
Comments (14)Way way way back when, I used to post a lot. I can't believe it, but I still see some names from back then !! Our build got put off because we bought some coastal property and we have to build there before we can build our primary residence here. FINALLY starting coastal build in October !! At any rate, I had a geocities account where I would keep pictures of mudroom lockers and that web address was passed along from member to member for a long time. Then Geocities closed. : ( I have now loaded my collection into photobucket. Not many dimensions, but lots of mudroom locker pictures. I have collected over 60 pictures so far (including adding those up-post). One at a time ... As a slideshow ... http://s1006.photobucket.com/albums/af184/mudroomlockers/?albumview=slideshow Hope this helps all !! p.s. if you know anything about elevators or have any opinions or suggestions, will you please go post on the elevator thread. Comments (7)Marthaelena, can you help give me a more specific recommendation on what might look good? Because I started out thinking I could change materials and just couldn't hit on an idea that would work. Kitchen will be warm contemporary with medium stained shaker cabinets on cherry; dark granite or soapstone, and oak hardwood floors. The kitchen is at one end of the mudroom, and at the other is the back hall and then the laundry. Laundry floor is tile that relates to the kitchen backsplash but basic white slab melamine cabinetry. So I feel like a third look in between might be too much. I can see keeping the same color and switching from shaker to slab in the office/mudroom area, for example, but I have a harder time picturing switching to a different wood tone. Maybe something like this - maybe I paint my island and then carry that color into the mudroom? I am one of those people who cannot figure out how to put things together visually. I know what I like and what I don't when it is done, but I have a very hard time visualizing what will work and what won't. mnhockeymom, love your lockers. Who did yours - cabinet company or finish carpenter? I want something very similar with the bottom portion being deeper than the top, and then I'll have cabs with doors over the top. At the end of the run I'll have my spare refrigerator. We also have one locker with a door that is dedicated to shoes as we have many, many shoes and they all live in the mudroom. We take off our shoes as soon as we come inside so the kids don't have any shoes upstairs at all. DH and I have some but most are mudroom-based. Anita...See MoreDo you have a mudroom/locker area
Comments (6)Take a look at your current entry, and assess what gets put away properly and what doesn't. We had lockers in our last house, and yet we all kicked our shoes off immediately in front of the locker cubby. I'm not sure if this was a design flaw, or just laziness on our part. I know that at least one excuse I heard was "I don't want the snow to melt onto the nice wood." In the next build, I'm considering roll-out trays, which I can line with something to avoid that excuse. (water hog mats? wax paper? I don't know yet!) We also had a Pottery Barn letter sorting contraption, yet it was always a crazy jumble with nothing organized into the proper compartment. And we always had stacks of "outgoing" stuff -- things to take to the library, UPS store, friend's house, etc. In the next build, I'm considering a simple oversized "inbox" and "outbox" baskets. Baskets make the most sense because they'll be easy to carry out to the car for deliveries, or to the couch for sorting. I'll be following along here for more ideas!...See MoreBold color for mudroom lockers....or white?
Comments (12)I wasn't necessarily married to the green. I just wanted a bold color. A robins egg blue was suggested but I didn't think it would have contrasted enough with the gray. Wife suggested lime green, but when looking at color deck her choices started slipping into grayer olive greens. Red, yellow, orange, green, royal blue, purple....i am open to any, just wanted to stop already with the white/black/gray and be bold!...See MoreDaud
