Please, comments on appliances choices
Comments (3)There is no one perfect range but hopefully you can find the one that is best for you. This forum can be a great source of information. I would search any brand that you are considering to find comments by people who actually own and use a specific appliance. You can see how they use them and find specific strengths and weaknesses in the context of real life cooking. Here are a couple about the two ranges mentioned. Dacor Review (in bits and pieces over time) It sounds like she does more than reheat to me. American Range Performer - experiences of recent buyers? Try to see the ranges in person and if possible cook on them. Read the use and care manuals and all terms of the warranty online. You might find an exclusion like this in the warranty. "Parts Exceptions:Rubber seals, grates, light bulbs and gaskets are warranted for 90 days from purchase. Oven door glass breakage is not covered by this warranty. Porcelain and glass components are excluded from this warranty. American Range Warranty Policy With all the problems I have had with porcelain interiors, this is an unfortunate deal killer for me. Mine have been of the blue variety but the fact that they don't cover it from the beginning is a little scarey. Others have had glass windows shatter and was replaced under warranty....See MoreOpinions on American Range Performer Rangetop
Comments (4)Follow up: We ordered the American Range and it's just been installed. So far there have been no issues and it's all I could hope for. Some minor notes based on concerns I've seen expressed elsewhere on the net: - It came packed very securely on a wooden palette in perfect condition. No rust, scratches, or any other issues. I didn't perceive any quality issues: parts seem sturdy, all cast metal and stainless steel, with no plastic in sight (even the knobs are cast metal). - While the grates are elevated pretty far above the burners, the high burner flames easily reach the bottom of the pan. I don't think I'll have any issues getting enough heat. - I love the fact that I don't have to turn the knob to a "lite" setting. Just turn the knob to whatever level you want and it automatically sparks until lit (if you blow it out, it automatically relights itself). - Simmer was initially way too high. After some research I figured out that under each burner knob, to the top/left of the shaft, there's a little set screw to control the simmer level. Turn on the burner to simmer, pull off the knob, and adjust clockwise to lower the flame to the desired level (if you go too far, the flame flickers and the auto-spark starts firing). I think the simmer on the lowest burner is as low as one might need. The high (25K BTU) burner simmer is still a bit high, and also as you adjust the set screw to the minimum level the high burner valve starts to make a slight hissing sound. - Granite company had no trouble at all cutting the granite, and the installers were able to retrofit everything into our existing cabinet (albeit with a lot of cutting of the cabinet and building a shelf for the cooktop to sit on)....See More36" ILVE Nostalgie or American Range Performer
Comments (2)I recommend posting in the Appliances Forum. There are many knowledgeable and passionate folks over there. And while you are at it, search that forum for posts on those ranges....See More36" ILVE Nostalgie or American Range Performer
Comments (4)I was looking into ILVE and La Canache but decided to go with 60" Thermador. Several forums noted random issues with each. We live in the midwest and I was very concerned about service support and installation. The Thermador has a nice look and nickel finish to knobs which I like vs Wolf or other more commercial looking ranges....See MoreBakingMom
