I have an Advantium 240v wall oven, and have used the over-the-cooktop version too. The oven interiors are NOT identical. Far from it - the wall-oven version has a much deeper interior, about 4" or so deeper than the over-the-cooktop model. That's because the wall oven fits into a cabinet that's 24" deep, whereas the over-the-cooktop oven has to fit in-between 12" deep cabinets without sticking out too far. Common items like a pizza box won't fit into the OTC Advantium, which was the main reason I wanted the wall-oven version. On the minus side, the wall oven has only one rather than two racks above the turntable (the 120v Advantium wall oven doesn't even have one rack, just a riser that fits on the turntable), and the black and stainless-steel over-the-cooktop Advantiums (the 240v models anyway, not sure about the 120v) have an illuminated button panel that I don't think the wall ovens have. As far as how they cook, both wall oven and OTC cook about the same.

We bought our first Advantium in 1999 after seeing it at Epcot. Had it for 6 years and sold it used when we remodeled our kitchen in 2005. The only appliance we were SURE would be in our new kitchen was an Advantium 240 oven. Turns out the rest of the appliances fell in line in the Monogram line as well while researching most of them. 2 years later, still very happy with all the Monogram applinaces. One problem with our rangetop was fixed by Monogram service. The Advantiums have both been trouble free the entire time we have owned them and they get heavy use. I do have one gripe with our very early model Trivection oven, it has a design flaw in that it will not maintain oven temperature in the multi rack convection mode. If I set it for any other mode it works fine so its just a software glitch. Its been that way since day one.

Thanks. The Advantium is at the top of a nice "breakfast station" installation with a pair of pocketing doors, above a toaster oven and coffee maker. It was put in by professionals, and I don't want to mess with it. I wish there was a stick-on battery-powered light that I could put inside the microwave. At least the Advantium uses one if it (easier-to-change!) halogen lights if you want to see the progress of whatever you've got cooking by pushing the button on the front panel.

So, your dilemma is buy a kitchen to match the laundry, or buy a kitchen that doesn't match itself, or give up on the Advantium. Only you can answer which things you want to match which. I suggest you read more threads in this forum, however, because the questions about function you're asking aren't the right ones. Most dishwashers clean the dishes--though, as I said my GE/Advantium from seven years ago doesn't clean as well as others on the cycle that dries my dishes. I haven't used the other cycles enough to know if they'd be better. The kicker is that if there's a tiny scrap of lettuce on a dish, it'll still be there, clean and dry, when the load is done. I've said this before in many threads. About dishwashers: Nowadays most of the work is left to the detergent and rinse aid, rather than being performed by the machine. The detergent, by law, uses enzymes that break down the food residues (you really are supposed to put the dishes in dirty). The spray is much gentler because it uses less water, and the water is generally filtered and recycled within the machine. For drying, the machines rely on the mass of your load, the crockery, the metal flatware and utensils, pots, etc. If you have smaller, thinner dishes, and a lot of glass and plastics, you may not have enough mass for good drying. Anyway, the drying uses the mass to retain heat, and the heat build up combined with the thin stainless tub, evaporating the water which condenses on the cooler walls. It is important to use rinse aid, which breaks the surface tension of the water (it's a surfactant, like soap), which makes more of the water run down to begin with, rather than clumping in drops, and makes it easier for the remaining to evaporate. (This is all about regular drying. There is no magic that makes pools in upturned rims evaporate, though tilting the dish helps drain it.) Miele has machines that pop open at the end of the wash cycle to let out steam. GE may still offer a heating coil to use in an optional setting. If you have a lot of glass and plastic and not much other mass, and want them dry, the heating coil is a good thing. If you're not using a heating coil, you can put plastics in the bottom rack. Miele (even mid-level) is considered the best, and has beaucoup excellent racks. Some people's everyday dishes don't fit Miele, however, as well as other brands. You should make sure your dishes fit before buying a dishwasher. Ovens are the most problematic. They all have quirks, and there's a lot that can go wrong. Since you don't seem particularly interested in the appliance shopping, I'm guessing the oven isn't a big deal to you. In the past, GE has made some decent ovens, as well as some really awful ones that could not hold temperature or keep the same temperature throughout the oven. It's probably too soon to know how they're doing on the current ones under Haier (the new owners from China). In the past, as well, GE has made some good, solid basic fridges. The newer high end fridges preserve food for longer, but so long as your food stays safely cold, any fridge will do. The big question is whether it will last longer than seven years if it has any electronics, and if the milk and lettuce will freeze in the fridge. In general, there aren't any real stinkers in the GE lineup, but only the 240V Advantium is a top appliance. You probably won't be be in awful shape if you buy all GE, but there's no solution to your looks dilemma but to make a choice between the options.
