LOL yeah I saw an infomercial for that stirrer the other day and thought it looked interesting, but then I could barely think of anything I make that needs to be stirred constantly. (They were talking about how you have to stir soup for hours. I guess I never noticed.) Offhand all that came to mind was hollandaise sauce that I make from a mix maybe once a year which needs to be stirred constantly for a few minutes, and risotto. Somehow I doubt its gyroscopic action is strong enough to work through risotto. So far I don't think I need it.

LOL! My now 12 yo had to write a "persuasive" writing essay a couple of years ago, so he decided to write about how Twinkies were actually healthy LOLOL! I don;t have it in front of me, but there were comments about how they used wheat (grain), hydrolized vegetable oil (veggies), and originally had banana filling. It was written tongue in cheek and he got a good grade on it. But in the same vein, I laugh every time I see the Fiber One Pop Tarts mixed in with the high fiber energy bars. If someone is relying on Pop Tarts to boost the fiber in their diet, they need to take a hard look at what they are eating LOLOLOL!

But not to stray from the topic at hand, no I don't think I need that gadget either. I think FOAS is right, it would never stir risotto and I don;t make anything else that requires constant stirring.

Well of course Twinkies are nutritious! It's got your four basic food groups. It's got your fats, your salts, your preservatives and addictiveness. It's nature's perfect food and has the half life of Uranium.

I saw a brief thing about that stirring thing. I couldn't help but laugh thinking what would anyone want that for. The only thing I could think of that needs constant stirring is Justin Wilson's roux where you "stir, stir, stir..." but I'm not sure I want that thing in my food anyway. And it didn't look to be a very consistent stirring anyway in the brief time I saw it.

The stove that I got rid of 25 years ago had an "automatic" stirrer....it was a ceramic thingie with stainless surround and one burner had a revolving magnet and that made the ceramic thingr evolve in the pan. Because the revolving magnet was larger than the burner, the stirring action went to the edges of the pan.
I used it once for making a custard pudding. The noise of that thing scraping around in the pan drove me cracy.....and the pudding stuck in the middle of the pan.
As for healthy hostess snacks....I thought everyone knew about all the antioxidants in that rich dark chocolate of Ho ho's!....and the calcium in the creamy filling....

Hostess Twinkie was made in Rye, NY. about 15 minute from me. It was made by ITT, (International Telephone and Telegraph). I understand deep fried Twinkies are very good.

The Stirrer is absolutely amazing. I cannot figure out how it works. What makes it move? It is not driven by a motor.

Oh yes, Ho Ho's are one of the most healthy food items you can eat. LOL! And I love them - every once in a while.

I guess similar to the way a random orbital sander will spin if not held steady. So yes, there must be a motor in it.

The thing is in two parts, the legs are detachable to go in the dishwasher, and the batteries are in the handle. If it has a motor, a motor will need to be attached to a fixed object for it to turn, or the legs will have to have wheels to drive the thing.

Actually, it looks like it would be a very handy gadget to have around.
Especially for anyone like me,
With some rather simple.
Not too serious handicaps,
Such as Arthritis in the shoulders.

At times, stirring is a real pain.
Literally.
This little gem could be a big help.

But I wish it gave some dimensions,
Such as what the maximum depth it can handle is.

Twinkies?
Can't we just enjoy them once in awhile?
Without the health concerns?

Gotta have a little fun once in awhile, don't we? ?

So the real question is "What is this world coming to?"? Darned if I know.

Pop Tarts with Fiber and Twinkies as health food. Go figure. As for the cupcakes, well, I did make the Cook's Illustrated knock off of Hostess chocolate cupcakes with cream filling. They were good. Really good. Not good enough for the time and steps it took to make them though, so the Hostess company is safe for now.

As for the stirrer, well, I'd put it on the list next to the contraption that's supposed to cook pasta in hot water instead of on the stove, and the collapsible potato masher that collapses whenever you try to use it!

There have been times I've wished I had an auto stirrer like those magnetic stirring plates you find in labs.

I'm also astonished by special containers for the fridge for partially cut up onions, grapefuit etc. Haven't these people heard of little plastic sandwich bags? That's what I use.

I've been cracking up over the Wendy's commercials for "natural cut" fries! Just because you leave the skin on the fries,which is my best guess as to what "natural cut" means, doesn't mean they're healthy. Eventhough my kids put up a big argument on their behalf.

Poor kids have never had Wendy's and they believe themselves to be somewhat abused because of it. We do eat fast food a couple times a year when the circumstances are right, maybe Wendy's will have to be our next try.

When I feel like eating junk food, I ignore the ingredient list. That alone helps the snack be healthier, because I'm not stressing out over eating something "bad."

When I saw the automatic stirrer, my first that was, "Isn't that what a mixer is?" But I guess, this fits into any pot or pan. My mother had weak wrists. Something like that would have been wonderful for her if it worked right.

I'm with those that can't think of anything I make that needs constant stirring. Risotto - nope, just a brief stir fairly frequently; Polenta - nope, same as Risotto, soup - definitely not. I haven't made hollandaise in decades, and I never make fudge, so I can't think of anything I'd need that gadget for.

Wendy's uses much less transfats than other fast food places, so if we're on the road and HAVE to stop somewhere quick, that's usually considered. I would totally rather have Twinkies, now that you mention it.

The only thing at Wendys' worth eating is the fries....
It's been a few years but I found their hamburgers full of little hard bits of gristle and bone...

Linda, I have never found Wendy's burgers as you described...never. Although I usually eat at Wendy's about once every year or two. I loved their chicken sandwiches before they 'improved' them about 6 years ago. The original sammies were great...but the new improved not so much. Same with the fries in my opinion. The new ones are tasteless sticks of nothingness....the original ones were much better when they were hot and fresh as is the case with any fries.

The only time I have ever run into bone issues is with White Castle...I always thought they trimmed too close to the horses' hooves~~ !!!

But my last few visits have been okay...perhaps their commercial butcher has recalibrated his machinery!
