Betty, I have searched all over for a way to have the contact list appear last name first, but I can't find a way to do that, either. When I click Address Book, there they are listed with the last name first.

The second part of your post is an I-Village thing, and I have read others' complaints about the same thing. Seems that checking the item to receive an e-mail to responses does not work.

to the second part, I'll add this. It works part of the time, part of the time. Other times it either works right or not at all. I hang at the Test Forum, and test it out there every so often. I think I always get them all on that particular forum.

Having replies sent directly to the original poster does not seem like a good idea to me. That means the OP might have the cure but fail to return to tell others. Many lurkers come to places like this, how can they gain insight if there are no follow up posts?

I have researched this on my Vista Windows Mail system and I currently don't have access to my old Win98 system with OE. (Garage is snowed in)

On the Windows Mail system I opened the addressbook and right clicked on an entry. The drop down window appeared and I selected Properties. The appearing window showed the addressee, Richard Nixon :) among other items.

I just back spaced the name out and reentered it as Nixon Richard, and selected OK. The entry took up a new spot in the addressbook now under N.

Perhaps this will also work with OE. When it thaws a bit I can check for you.

DA, I think what Betty is referring to is the Contacts list on the left side of the layout. Even though the drop down list in Address Book has the names "Nixon, Richard", in the Contacts list it shows as "Richard Nixon". When you get a chance to check OE on your other computer, see if yours are this way, and if you can get the last name first in that list.

If you have turned on autocomplete , when you type in R it should give you all the R choices and then you can choose from Richard Childless, Rebecca J. Pearch, or Richard Nixon.

By Default OE doesnt have a list of contacts on the left. But if you could alpha order them by second word then Wal-Mart would become Mart-Wal - and that just doesnt look right.

With XP, OE 6, if You open your contacts properties window, you can choose how you want their names "displayed"......Example...I have Beverly Adams in my book. I choose her to be displayed as "Adams, Beverly and that puts her in alha order in my contact list to the left.

Thanks for this info, Jean. However, as soon as I choose the display the way I want it, I get the message that OE has encountered a problem and must shut down. Very frustrating.

I just tried Jean's suggestion on my desktop and it worked. It was on the laptop that OE shut down. Both are XP Media Center Edition; the laptop is a newer machine. Strange.
