how to place two screens side by side

someplace I read that just with a simple selection I could place two screens side by side with just a click. I need to transfer my files from the old computer to new.

I know how to open two screens and simply grab the edge and resize each screen to make them both fit on the computer screen.

I am using Windows XP

Is this something you have heard and know how to do or am I just wishing and think this is possible.

Are you talking about two windows in the same monitor? or two monitors with two computers?

If you are just talking about a quick way to place two open windows on the same computer screen side-by-side, you can right-click on the task bar and select Tile Windows Vertically. HTH.

thanks everyone for chiming in. A small commitment, the front side! Never considered that, Wilson853! Agree with "busymom"--work with accents rather than making a huge change. Right now, the painted island is what we might call a trend but it has some classic appeal. But I know me--will I want to stay with this color scheme for 5-10 years? I don't see us moving as we've downsized and built a home to fit our retirement needs. I really like some of the photos I've seen of painted center island. Instead, I think I'll have the great room re-painted from builder beige and see how that affects the space. Thank you so much. You have all helped me sort this out! I did paint the guest bathroom cabinet and it looks sensational! That's how I caught "the painting bug."

Yes, a large table is needed, like the one I show in the image I posted above. My understanding is that @sans007 needs to occasionally seat 10-12 people in a way that will also allow 4-5 people to feel comfortable. There’s no way to do that by just addressing the table, you have to address the seating. The double banquette does this in a way that doesn’t require 6 or 7 chairs to line the walls of the space. Unfortunately, the OP’s space is too shallow for this type of arrangement. A U shaped bench seat would fit better. I have no idea how she fit a table that seats 12 in that space. She is a magician.

Thanks live_wire_oak. It is certainly stressing me out. We are looking at buying steel supports sort of like the kind you buy for bar seating counter extension. There are several points to anchor the steel to. We have extra height to play with as the design was for the dishwashers to be elevated a few inches. I know this is not conventional, but we are looking everywhere for a solution that will prevent the need of taking down the half wall (it has lots of electrical in it as well), or having to change our plan at this late stage after cabinets have been ordered and installed and hardwood installed. We will do the former before the latter, but both are a big set back. I would far rather throw money at thinner steel supports. A solution for fastening the anti-tip brackets has been found (see video) as well as we can screw one bracket into the side wall or side cabinet for each dw. We just have to design support for the quartz countertop. The countertop guy said today: "this is totally doable with steel supports", (so that is one vote that a solution can be found). It sounds like what you want to do is transfer files from one PC to another.

Is that right?

If so, do the PCs have network cards and do you have a router?

The fastest way to do it is to set up a network, enable sharing on one PC, then copy files from that PC to the other one. If your PCs have network cards, but you don't have a router, you can still do it using a special kind of network cable called a crossover cable, but it takes a little more configuring.

Another option is to get something like the Tornado. I bought one of these on sale for my dad because it was easier than walking him through the networking process. I got it for $19.99, though. I'm not sure I would have paid $49.95 for it.

If you don't have an external drive for backing up, this is your excuse to get one and save yourself grief down the road. Get an external drive, connect it to the old PC and back it up. Then safely remove it, connect it to the new PC and copy the files to the new PC.

I usually use a flash thumb drive to move files if it is not on a network, it is really the easiest way I have found, they are small easy to carry and just plug right into a usb port, cheap and come in nice big storage sizes.
I agree with having an external backup hard drive it is an excellent way to go.

You can also take out your old hard drvie and plug it into your new PC and copy everything to your new hard drive.

I do have everything backed up on an external drive.

The only way I know to get the Old document files and pictures are by dragging from the old file and dropping into the new picture or document file.
This is why I wanted to be able to set these two screens up vertically side by side for eaze of dragging and dropping.

Are you saying there is an easier way then dragging one file at a time?

If you plug your old drive in your new computer, You can copy the entire drive in one shot, not just one file at a time.

Make sure you understand the difference between IDE and SATA type connectors for drives.

Or, get an external drive box (very cheap) and copy thru USB port.

I open the HD window and the new folder on the new PC. I copy and paste them from the external hard drive onto the new pc. I do a lot of folders at one time with copy and paste.

Wonderful Idea, I had tried this select all and copy and paste and when I got to the other screen the paste was not highlighted in the edit screen in the file so I could not do this.

Therefore, I thought it was not possible. I will have to try again to selecting all and see if I can do it this way.

I try right clicking or the tool bar copy and paste. You might try copying one folder and see if that works. Play around with it a bit. I have had Vista, XP and ME and it worked for me.

"Ctrl A" will let you select all files.
