Thanks for all your good wishes. With any luck, this year will turn out better than 2007.

Turning 50 (yes, I am 50 today) was hard enough. I just completed my 5th month of unemployment thanks to the crisis in the mortgage industry which caused my company, American Home Mortgae, to go bankrupt in early August.

To boot, DH was a caualty of B of A's downsizing, and has been unemployed since mid December.

And...although I was a very strong candidate for positions in two companies, both went to internal candidates at the last minute, the last of which I found out this past Friday.

So, aside from wanting to put my head the oven (it is not just for baking and roasting, although the fact that they're electric will probably present a problem) I am staying positive and taking it one day at a time.

This is why we budget and save. This is our 'rainy day'.

So, thank you for all your good wishes...fom your lips to God's ears.

Have a question for you? Do you golf? SIL is a member of EWGA-Long Island - it is a woman's golf association. She works for Chicago Title. If you want to email me your resume I will pass it on. You never know. I linked the site. May be worth the investment to join and attend their events.

I just went to one of their cocktail parties in Long Beach over the holidays - one woman was a big shot with EAB and now heading a small bank (also downsized). Lots of networking and definitely a feeling of woman doing everything then can to help woman. Also, just a really fun group!

I am not a member and a SAHM these days but if anything I can do to help I will try.

Dh is the golfer in the family and plays in GC.

Fortunately, I have a pretty sizable network since all of my colleagues were displaced and are landing at different companies on LI and in NYC.

I am finding that networking, as you suggest, is THE way find a job and am working diligently at it, as is my sis who has quite an extensive network herself.

I am also going for a professional certification that will increase my chances of landing something.

Thanks for the offer to help. if all else fails, I will take up golf and get some help from EWGA!!!
