Slowing down cheese mould ?

Has anyone got a tip/trick to slow down mold on cheddar cheese. It seems after about 8-10 days in the fridge cheese compartment mold appears and I toss it out. I can't get past cutting the remaining good part off, I just would not eat it. I've tried tightly wrapping in Saran, loosely wrapped in the original package. I hate having to buy smaller more expensive packages when I see double amounts selling on sale for about the same price sometimes.
