Question about free anti spyware etc.

I read some discussions lately that suggested Lavasoft AdAware should be replaced by Super Antispyware or Malwarebytes.

What about Spybot Search and Destroy? Lose it and go with both above?

I also saw some recommendations for Revo Uninstaller, is it better than CCleaner?

Didn't want to hijack threads that were done.

Lavasoft Adaware, at least on this forum, seems to have taken a backseat to Malwarebytes and Super Antispyware. It would not hurt to have all three...or if you prefer, any combination of them.

Spybot holds it's own, and is still a good 'scanner' to have on board.

Revo Uninstaller simply improves the 'uninstall' of programs that had problems uninstalling on thier own.

CCleaner (CrapCleaner) is basically another "junk" cleaner, and does not uninstall anything. Good program.

who the heck are all these new people and some of the things suggested here are not the ones you want please be careful we have had some trolls here lately trying to sell their junk. You can not run 2 antivirus programs at the same time if they are both running full time it will cause a conflict that is very well known and documented and will be told to you at any of the support forums you go to so you need to fully remove Norton since you now have AVG. go here and use app remove and the norton removal tool from the security garden link Antivirus Product Removal Tools Using AppRemover it is free spybot search and destroy was at one time very good but today there are some that are much preferred so I suggest replacing spybot and adaware with these free products, update them each time you use them and scan weekly with full scan. ", I'm having a problem with the iPad, email is locked." some antivirus software makes you answer everytime you open a program this usually get less frustrating over time, since you will give it permission for each program you use. after a few days, you usually use most of them, and it stops asking. I am tinking this may be why your email is "locked" you either answered NO for it, or, for some other reason it isnt giving your email permissions to open. You may have to go into the antivirus menu/settings people always forget to do that.

no it is one of the many rogue fake antivirus infections and you will need to go to one of the help forums to get assistance for some special scans, these leave things behind that have to be dealt with many contain rootkits so you really want to make sure it is all gone. this link will take you to the forum, just register there and start your own thread in this area I link you to, they will be there to assist you as soon as possible, please only follow the instructions there once commencing so that nothing gets confused and conflicts. Linda J, That just means that there is an issue with the webpage you are accessing. Unless you are a web developer, anytime you see the words "My SQL" in an error, it means that the webpage has a problem. Nothing wrong with your computer where this message is concerned. Pam

Lavasoft use to be the flagship off the fleet, but through recent years it has lagged in development and dependability.

Spybot is the old veteran. It is still a great secondary application, but as Ken points out it is not recommended anymore as a first line of detection.

Revo is as Ken reports. CCleaner has a application uninstall tool which I believe is nothing but a pointer to the application's uninstaller. Stick with Revo as it begins with the on-board uninstaller and then takes over for a deeper more complete uninstall.

I have uninstalled Lavasoft and installed Super Antispyware and Malwarebytes.

I am happy to report they found nothing.

I kept Spybot Search and Destroy and CCleaner and will now install Revo Uninstaller.

I use Spyware Blaster too.

Lavasoft Adware found 3 tracking cookies on my computer that the other program I have didn't....also those 3 cookies didn't show up in my cookies folder. Makes me kind of nervous.

Tracking cookies are really nothing to worry about.
Ok to delete them, but they really don't harm anything.

Txken, I was told to make sure and delete them....I've had a situation where a blogger was tracking me back to a new photoblog....one of which I never gave her a link to come visit...but she found me. Maybe I'm missing something to break the ties of being followed in that manner?
