GE Monogram range with grill
Comments (14)Are you talking about the oven (and not the grill or griddle)? If so, the main over doesn't take any longer to preheat than our older non-pro oven (which was a stand-alone unit and not part of a range). However, one nice thing about the 48 inch ranges is that you get a much smaller side oven that will be sufficient for most oven uses (it will hold a full sized pyrex dish). That oven heats up much quicker than any oven I have ever worked with before. But as to exact times, I haven't the faintest clue. If I remember, I will measure the heating times this evening after I get home from work. Jay...See MoreGE Monogram range burners - hot enough?
Comments (16)One thing I think gets thrown around here somewhat in error is "open burner". There are residential style open burners that many old basic gas stoves used and some new offerings such as viking and up till recently wolf offered as an option. The debate should be about "commercial style" open burners which as far as I know are only offered by 3 manufacturers (bluestar, capital and american range). Your typical residential style open burner does not offer a huge performance advantage over a sealed burner, but there is a huge difference in performance between a commercial style open burner and a residential style (open or closed) burner. The only way a residential style burner (open or closed) ccould give similar performance (with same btu rating) to a commercial style burner is if the cooking vessel had a huge diameter. Larger than 12" for sure. I have owned a residential style open burner 15k viking and also have 15k commercial style bs burners currently and I can say with real world experience the two burners can not compare on high heat performance. After owning both and using many, I would say that as long as there is a commercial style open burner available I don't think I could go back to anything else. I was never truly happy with the performance of any residential style burner that I have used or owned. If ther were no options available I'd seriously have to look into what it would take to legalize a real commercial range. @OP you may very well be happy with the performance of the monogram. We can't tell you if you will be or not. Those of us that own commercial style burners can collectively tell you that you will get better performance with a commercial style burner, but we can't say if its overkill for you or not. I was never thrilled with the performance of my 15k res style....See MoreGE Monogram Range - Griddle or No Griddle?
Comments (9)I have a Bluestar 36" with the built in griddle, and absolutely love it! Use it daily, sometimes several times. They don't look dirty, they become seasoned, and are very easy to maintain. I treat mine the same as I do my 100 year old cast iron skillets, just wipe it down, NEVER soap, and rarely even water. Honestly, the built in griddle is one of the best decisions I ever made, never have needed more than four burners in 40+ years of cooking, if I had room for a 48" range I would definitely get it with a 24" griddle, love and use it that much! Now, how about sharing your pupusa recipe? ;) ...chris...See MoreGE monogram range report in 2018?
Comments (26)I fell in love with the GE Monogram range, after reading some very misleading reviews. When we first started using the range we noticed that the oven fan sounded like a jet plane taking off, rattling the stove burners in the process. I thought I’d withhold my judgement until I saw how it performed. Then one of the burners stopped igniting, so we called to have it serviced. More than a week later when a technician finally arrived he ordered a replacement fan and “fixed” the faulty igniter, and said he’d be back to install the new oven fan on July 7 (approx 2-weeks). The next morning, we made breakfast on our stove and found that now that it’s been “fixed” the burner WILL NOT TURN OFF, so it is just releasing GAS into our house unless we shut off the breaker, at which point we have no functioning range. I called back and spent 2 hours on hold and dealing with customer service telling me that (1) they can’t get anyone out to look at this for more than a week - this was after they said they had no idea when they could schedule an appointment and I argued that this was not acceptable and (2) the appointment I thought we had on July 7th for the oven fan was rescheduled to July 22 and no one bothered to let us know. In summary, this GE Monogram range is a beautiful, $10,000 PIECE OF JUNK!! The only positive thing about it, is that is looks amazing in my kitchen. Everything else about it SUCKS. And to top it all off, GE’s customer service IS HORRIBLE. Additionally, we got the GE Monogram dishwasher to go with our range and it's equally horrible. It's not broken (yet) but the bottom tray falls off the "tracks" all the time, the latch that opens and closes is stiff and clunky and it doesn't actually clean the dishes, but it dries them really well, pretty much baking the stuck on food into your dishes so you have to scrub them after they come out of the "dishwasher"....See More- 13 years ago
