trouble installing flight simulator program

My son received Microsoft Flight Simulator X Gold Edition for Christmas. He has been able to install and use the deluxe edition part of it, but so far no luck installing the acceleration expansion pack. We have a 4 yr old computer using Windows XP and an integrated graphics card. From what I can determine, the acceleration pack uses Direct X 10 which was created for Vista. Would adding a graphics card help, or are we out of luck using XP? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Does not seem to mention that Direct 10x is needed. Checking to see if you can download direct 10 for xp as I'm not sure.

Download DirectX 10 for windows XP is available now. This DirectX 10 for windows XP still in alpha stages and isnÂt the original of DirectX 10 files from Microsoft. As Microsoft has announced that the DirectX 10 currently support to Windows Vista only.

Well it seems that with all our help you should be able to sort out your machine! I know a huge fuss is made over hackers getting into computer systems, but now you see why they do it. The internet is dominated by a computer program/s and a company that has put out a flawed product and expects everyone to suck the big one themselves if something is wrong with it. I have always used programs that have nothing to do with the big corporate softeware giants and have never had spyware, virus or other problems (touch wood ;-)) that sound as bad as yours...as for my wifes advice 'format c' and use firefox!!! Get someone in who knows what they are doing to fix the problems by reformatting your hard drive, don't let them install any unecessary programs...like IE. Use firefox and get the same person to set it up so you don't pick up extra junk, use the firewall, adblock etc. Finally, be very careful on which links you choose to look at, there are so many bogus ones out there. As for people complaining about ads...what ads? I don't see them...Yay for firefox!!! Wazzimodo

Thanks.You understand- when the body betrays the spirit! I didn't think I would like that one looking on close-up, but as the finished panel, it has wonderful movement and energy. I guess I can start with a small thing... like a trivet? Want to do a table top. Want to do a mirror. Want to do just a wall piece. But, I can start with a small thing. I knew an artist who while working on a little cabin he bought decided to put the most extraordinary mosaic on the floor of the bathroom (see, we got back to the bathroom forum purpose). It was not his primary medium, however his creativity just came through in everything he did. I had always hoped that I would get to mosaics by the time I was ready to tile a bath, kitchen... but did not. Need to practice a bit, then perhaps when the basement bathroom plumbing needs to be redone (what did the prev homeowners do behind those walls??) I may be ready to get creative!

Thanks for helping me look at this. I have googled the direct X 10 and XP and saw the download. I am unfamiliar with this stuff so am afraid to just download it. I think it is the video card, as I think our system meets all the other requirements. It is an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 224 MB max dynamically allocated shared video memory. All I know about this I learned in the past 2 days reading online, so my understanding is limited. I do have a PC1 Express expansion slot; can I just add a video card or would the intel graphics media accelerator have to be somehow disabled? Do you know what the "shader model 1.1 or higher" refers to? I don't see anything in my information telling if I have that. Thank you for your time with this.

The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator, or GMA, is Intel's current line of integrated graphics processors built into various motherboard chipsets.
These integrated graphics products allow a computer to be built without a separate graphics card, which can reduce cost, power consumption and noise. They are commonly found on low-priced notebook and desktop computers as well as business computers, which do not need high levels of graphics capability. 90% of all PCs sold have integrated graphics. They rely on the computer's main memory for storage, which imposes a performance penalty, as both the CPU and GPU have to access memory over the same bus.

Some Graphics cards will automatically disable on board video/ Graphics. If not you can easily disable it in the bios.
