Win Patrol 2012

Folks I just received a e-mail from the folks at Win Patrol letting me know of their new WP 2012, I downloaded and when I began to install it, my AVG covered the screen with warnings. I clicked quaranteen and decided to see if anyone else had this problem.

i just installed it over itself no screaming of Microsoft Security Essentials. I did install it from the web at WinPatrol website.

Just now ran Malwarebytes on its install folder... shows nothing bad.

I downloaded and installed it with no security warnings.I also use Microsoft Security Elements.

AZ, I understand what you are saying, but Emma makes a lot of sense. If users are not prepared for progress we would all still be using Commodores or in the least Win3.1. We have a whole bunch of Dell XP SP2 systems in our building. Six in our office alone. Ours are going to be replaced by a governmental entity due to security, non-MS software demand, and future anticipated expansion. You can bet many of the other offices will have to replace their systems via their budget as their offices have systems integrated for use with our data. And, we did survive without a burp when we switched from Win98 and Win2000 to WinXP. Bobbie, Hope you are sitting down. You know how I was dragged kicking and screaming into the post Win98 era as I loved my Win98 system. And, yes you know I love my Vista system even more and have defended it for all the bad publicity it received. My plans right now is to buy a entry to mid-level laptop with W8 just so I can play. See why I said I hope you were sitting down. Even though I think there is way too much going on now with the Internet, and can only guess as to what the future will bring we users have a choice. Win 7 Antispyware 2012, Vista Antivirus 2012, and XP Security 2012 are all names for the same rogue anti-spyware program. This family of rogues is promoted in two ways. The first is through the use of fake online antivirus scanners that state that your computer is infected and then prompt you to download a file that will install the infection. The other method are hacked web sites that attempt to exploit vulnerabilities in programs that you are running on your computer to install the infection without your knowledge or permission. Regardless of how it is installed, once it is running on your computer it will install itself as a variety of different program names and graphical user interfaces depending on the version of Windows that is running. yes you can use it on your new pc when you buy it you pick a name to use and it will give you a code specific to your name. Once you get the new pc you just install the free version of winpatrol then hit the plus tab and it will ask for that name and code just enter that and it will be the full plus version on the new pc. This is not an antivirus or antimalware program as Corrine mentioned it is to run in addition to any of those programs what it does is say you happen to go to a website that has a malicious "drive by" infection that tries to install on your pc it will alert you that something is trying to make changes to your computer and ask if you want to allow it or not. It is similar to how a firewall will sometimes ask you what you want to do. In some cases you may not know the right answer but it has a feature that you can check and see what is recommended or you can do a quick google search if you are not sure. It may take some time to learn what things are to be allowed and what are not but it definitely will help you understand what is happening on your pc. And of course if you find it not to your liking you can disable it or remove it and you only lost 99c. Corrine has a good tutorial on LzD winpatarol forums about how to remove it should anyone need to. Very simple. For anyone that misses the sale there is of course the free version of winpatrol, the benefit of the plus version is that it is running in real time so if it sees anything happening it tells you immediately. Yes this is a lifetime subscription for 99c and you can move it to a new pc. And of course it is for some and NOT for others!!! IF it is not for you, you can simply walk on by.

WinPatrol StartUp:

I've heard from Bill and he is fixing the autorun option in the installer so later updaters will not have the same issue.

AVG False/Positive:

When installing WinPatrol 2012, AVG may detect WinPatrolEx.exe as an unknown virus called "Win32/DH.FF930004". This is a false/positive and has been reported to AVG.

WinPatrolEx.exe is WinPatrol Explorer, the main tabbed interface of WinPatrol.

Would someone who has the new version installed please check the "About" to see specifically what version identifier they have. I'm finding both v24.0.2012 and v24.0.2012.1 available. Perhaps the fix has been completed.

As an AVG user I don't want to rush into the upgrade until the conflict is resolved.

I just downloaded and installed v2012.1 from Filehippo. My AVG didn't even blink so I guess the newer version is the way to go.

we have a winpatrol forum on LzD and this is from there
AVG False/Positive

also there was a problem with auto start not starting at boot up but from Bills twitter and also on our LzD site this info.
Thanks to everyone for their quick feedback. "Automatically run WinPatrol when computer starts" has been corrected in new installer.

You can always check that LzD winpatrol forum for info.

There was a small AVG update this afternoon. Virus database version 2109/4712 is reported to have been released December 30, 2011, at 2:34 a.m. I received it at 12:44 p.m. this afternoon well after my traditionally scheduled update at 6:00 a.m. this morning. This may have been the conflict remedy. Or maybe not.

I updated AVG and re-installed WinPatrol with no problem.

Bill P. is the greatest! Almost a year ago I had upgraded to Win Patrol Plus. I just finished completely restoring my XP computer, but did not have all programs saved. So I downloaded the latest free version and then tried to put in my name and registration number. It would not take, but I noticed an e-mail address given at the bottom of the site for help. I wrote and received a reply in a couple of hours. Seems I was putting a period after my middle initial, and that was the problem. Now I have the latest version of Plus duly registered.
