GE Profile? Suggestions??

Pardon this blind/ignorant post. I tried using the Forum search engine with GE and Profile has key words and got absolutely bizzare results (and not one from this forum).

Any help appreciated..

I am doing a kitchen remodel and have been appliance shopping. I currently have ASKO - DW, Jenn Aire Down draft cook top (electric), WHirlpool side by side R/F, and GE wall mount oven/micro combo.

I would like a "uniform" look in the kitchen and hence appliances that "match:.

I looked today at GE Profile (their higher end models)- Counter depth french door R/F, DW, Cooktop (touch controls), Retractable Down Draft Vent system, Wall Oven and Micro combo.

Currently on sale and with a $500 rebate.

My current appliances are "OK", but nearing 20 years old. I have virtually no experience with the "newer" stuff.

Any help would be appreciated, including links in this forum that you may recall that are of a similar nature.

Thanks in advance, I'm open to suggestions.

I have a 2 wk old GE Profile 20 ft CD FD w/ icemaker. The icemaker isn't hooked up; didn't want that. But I like the fridge; very quiet & spacious. Only things I find not QUITE big enough are the fruit & veg bins, and can't get 2 Gal jugs in one shelf, but again, this is a 20 not 25 cu. ft.

Generally you'd be better off mixing appliance brands - you can still get a good look by carefully selecting your appliances. No one brand makes all good appliances. Personally I would avoid a GE Profile refrigerator at all costs particularly if you want an ice maker. Numerous people on this forum and others that I know have had them leak over the years.

Some Monogram products such as ranges and fridges are completely different from the Profile line - some like MWs are just better looking. Also, Monogram provides better warranty service. I'd stay away from a Sears extended warranty - you'll likely be locked into using A&E for service. You don't need to go with a single brand, however. Most of us mix and match. Do your research and get the best brand of each product that meets your needs. No need to get a complete package from one brand.

I went with the Profile double-oven gas: here are my reasons. I like the smaller-size top oven for daily use, and the lower oven will only be used on occasion, so I'm ok with its location. (There's no room for a wall oven in my tiny kitchen -- and I have no plans to tear out cabinets and rearrange.) I'm a good cook, and I honed my skills on low-end domestic ranges because that's what was available: I don't need a commercial range to cook what I like, and I'm too busy with other aspects of my life to change my cooking style now. I also prefer not to deal with "pro" level BTUS and the ventilation complications they might add. I also am not willing to give up self-cleaning ovens -- which puts many pro-style ranges out of contention. I liked the slide-in setup and the angled control-knob location on the Profile, so that, and the price advantage, led me to choose it over the Cafe. Re: price, I bought mine from a local dealer, and I got the price down a bit by asking them to meet the ajmadison.com price. They didn't quite get there, but I was willing to pay a little extra for local sales/delivery/service reliability. Everyone's situation is a little different, but I found that the Profile slide-in fits best with my kitchen and the way I use it.

As I understand, it may be a spin-off and not outright sell but in either case, as has happened with their small appliance division years ago, whom ever would purchase could use the GE brand name for 10 or so years. Parts would be available and service would continue. Hotpoint sold years ago and lasted many years after as the same brand.

I still love it. It is very sturdy and I really like the way it looks. The burners work well. It boils water quickly, but also does a very low flame for simmering. The layout of the burners is perfect and pots never feel cramped. The grates are very sturdy. I’ve used the proof function and baked bread that turned out great. I haven’t used the WiFi connection. My model is all gas, has 6 burners, front controls, a single oven and a storage drawer below. I highly recommend this range.

Thanks for the responces. Is there any real difference between mid level appliances or are they all made by one manufacturer with different name plates. Is there one mid level that stands out? A neighbor told me kitchenaid appliances were "better". Any thoughts??

There's been a lot of consolidation in the industry lately. Whirlpool has owned KA for a while and recently purchased Maytag/Jenn Air. I also believe Bosch/Thermador/Gaggneau are the same company now. I have a KA fridge, DW, and compactor and I'm happy with all three but I'm not sure I'd buy a KA range/oven - there have been a bunch of mixed reviews about them lately.

Did you use the search at the bottom of the forum page? That one seems easier to use than the one on top.

Egganddart49 - THANK YOU - I never noticed the search link at the bottom which will restrict your search to the forum you are searching from. Finally. Now I've got some reading to do. Seems like people are "generally" not happy with the Profile fridge I was considering and they are recent posts. Thanks again.

The Profile fridge I just bought (new model) is different from the one I saw at the beginning of the hunt. The earlier one seemed quite cheesy in construction.
