Wolfe or GE Profile 30' gas cooktop?

Hi there... Looking for advice/comments from people who have personal experience with either the Wolfe or GE Profile 30" gas cooktop. We are looking for performance and reliability, and are also concerned about being able to use two or more large pans at the same time (12" and 10"). We are not able to expand to a 36" cooktop. The Profile has a wide range of BTU burners, as well as one dual level burner for simmer. Thanks in advance!

Have you considered the GE Monogram 30' gas cooktop? I've had one for a few months now and love it! Very powerful (largest burner 18k BTUs) and it also has the dual level simmer on all four burners. Using 12' and 10' pans at the same time is not a problem at all, as the controls are all on the right and don't take up that much space. It's also very good looking! You can find good deals on the price and for a little more than the Profile model, it's a nice upgrade. It's also quite a bit cheaper than the Wolf, with all the same functions and more power.

Hi Podge8. I'm confused.... I've been looking at Monogram and I don't think they make a 30" cooktop! Maybe they discontinued the model you have? Unless I"m wrong....
Anyway, what are the differences between the Profile and Monogram line? (Although it's a moot point if Monogram doesn't come in 30") How would the Profile differ from the Wolfe? Looking at the specs, it seems the Profile has a more powerful range of BTU's than Wolfe. But is it not made well? Thanks for the info.

When I asked GE for a oven/induction compatibility list for both the Monogram and Profile lines, they simply replied that all of their non-Trivection ovens were fine. At least one other person here asked the same question and was given an actual listing. I don't know if there were any particular exclusions in that list. If it were me, I would want to have correspondence from GE addressed to "me", assuring me that my proposed setup was ok.

I didn't buy extended warranties on any of my appliances and came out WAY ahead. The DCS, at least when I bought mine, had a 5 year warranty on the burners. When I had ignition problems they replaced all my ignitors with newly designed ones (although someone else on this forum said that DCS told him that ignitors weren't covered by the burner warranty.) They also sent me a newly designed island trim piece which redirected the oven exhaust gases better - they gave me the part free but not installation - I got a friend to help me install it. The general wisdom is that extended warranties are not a good deal except on laptops and HDTVs (I would have made out a little if I'd had one on my laptop). Basically you're better off saving the money and paying repairs out of pocket although you will hear stories from people who've had problem appliances and done well with their extended warranties.

I've had a GE Profile gas cooktop for 12 years at my vacation home. It's the shiny black glass. I'll never buy another one. The unit works fine but the glass always looks dusty. Who would have thought that you'd have to dust your cooktop daily? The Weiman Glass Cooktop Cleaner works great. Just use it sparingly and buff. Be careful not to slide pans or skillets across the glass because they can scratch the surface.

I am not sure why you are getting zero response to your question. I too am having a difficult time deciding between two brands. My request for advice wasn't answered either. So without the benefit of others sharing their experience the best way to decide is probably side by side comparison. List the pros and cons of each as you see them and perhaps one will stand out more than the other. I don't have gas but I do have a GE convection wall oven and a GE cooktop. The cooktop has had to have the elements replaced three times in the 8 years I have owned it. The convection oven has had fan issues from the get go. First the fan in the oven started sounding loud and was fixed. Now it has noise coming from an internal fan and you'd think a plane was landing in the kitchen. So, Jenn Air, with it's extra features may be worth the extra expense if it holds up better than the GE. I'd check their repair history. Good luck with your remodel and enjoy your new kitchen!

I can certainly vouch for podge8: There is definitely a 30" GE monogram cooktop. From what I've been able to see, it probably has the best specs for a cooktop this size in natural gas(compared to DCS, Dacor, Caldera, Wolf, Viking, Miele). It is on my top list for cooktops, although I've never seen one in person!

I have the Wolf 30" natural gas cooktop and like it very much indeed. I've only had it less than 6 weeks but like it very much so far - its a good looking unit and I do love its performance, both in the high and in the low. Others here (gibby2000 and a couple others) have had the Wolf for a while and continue to be happy with theirs so I felt confident of its reliability. It has a 15KBTU high burner and a 12.5Kbtu high for the second and 2 smaller 9kbtu burners. They are certainly more than plenty powerful for me. I love the stacked burner configuration and the low simmer on them all - the big burners have a simmer of 700btu I believe and the small ones have a very low 300btu setting. My largest pan is a 10" diameter, and I've used a couple of these 10inchers simultaneously without a problem. I also had upto 3 pans on the cooktop simultaneously very comfortably. I like the substantial, wide, stable grates on the cooktop, LOVE the lighted dials, I do like the little details about it like the slightly angled control panel so that you can better see even the furthest knobs & I do like how low profile it is.

I don't know anything about the GE Profile or the Monogram except that I will say that when I was investigating cooktops, the GE units published their simmer specs by providing a simmer temperature of some sort. Specs like these that don't elaborate whose temperature, of what qty it will maintain at that temperature etc. are just silly, annoy me greatly, so I never investigated those any further. However, DCS makes at least some of the Monogram stuff and I do think well of DCS, too, so if they've produced the Monogram I'm sure it is a good unit.

But I like my Wolf 30" very much.

Monogram absolutely has a 30" cooktop! It came out earlier this year. The model number is ZGU384NSMSS and you can follow the link I created at the bottom of this or my previous post. It has all of the same features of the Wolf (simmer on all four burners, lighted dials, etc.) and even more power (18k vs. 15k on largest burner). I think it is the most powerful sealed burner 30" cooktop out there right now. The simmer works great on all four burners and is very low, but like mindstorm mentioned, GE does not list the actual BTUs for the simmer, but they have always worked amazingly well for me. They'll even do the melting chocolate on a paper plate thing, without burning the plate! And yes, DCS does make the Monogram cooktops, at least the burner assemblies. The Wolf was originally my first choice, as it is an excellent option, but a salesman directed me towards the Monogram as a much better value for the price. I paid $500 less for the Monogram than I would have for the Wolf.

The Profile has simmer only on one burner, and the highest is rated a little bit less than the Monogram, but I doubt you'd really notice the difference. I also think the Monograms are much better looking, and the warranty and service is better as well. Monogram has dedicated service separate from the other GE brands. Both the Monogram and the Wolf, from the research I have done, are of better quality than the Profile. But that's not to say that the Profile line is bad, it's just in a different category.
