Hi, I'm new here and hope I can help you out. This is how I retrieved my mail from OE from and old windows program to Windows XP Hopefully it will work for you. Back Up Outlook Express Messages Microsoft stores Outlook Express messages in a subfolder buried deep beneath the Windows folder, where it's nearly impossible to back up. That can mean disaster if you have a disk crash, or if you replace your PC. When you restore your backed-up data files, you discover that your email is gone! Fortunately, Outlook Express 5.5 (included as a component of IE 5.01 with Service Pack 1 and in IE 5.5) allows you to change the default location where messages are stored, making it easier to back them up with your other files. Follow these steps: Open your My Documents folder, right-click on any empty space, and choose New, Folder from the shortcut menu. Because you'll use this new folder to hold your mail messages, give it a descriptive name like My Mail. From the main Outlook Express window, pull down the Tools menu, choose Options, and click the Maintenance tab. Click the Store Folder button. This opens a dialog box that allows you to select the folder where you want Outlook Express messages to be stored. Click the Change button. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, select the folder you created in Step 1 and click OK. Note that the path to your My Mail folder now appears in the Store Location dialog box. Click OK to save this change, and click OK to the warning message that appears next. Close the Options dialog box, and then close and restart Outlook Express. All your message files are now in a convenient location in the My Documents folder. Back up the entire contents of your My Documents folder today and you'll be well protected from data disasters! Now that you have them saved in a new file...... Save on a disc just like you did your other files. In your new computer, Go to OE mail and open... Go to File..Import.. messages Select Program - Example (Microsoft outlook express 6) Specify location - Import from an OE6 store directory Location of messages - Browse to fine your file. Select Folders you want to import - Click Next and it will add them to your new Outlook Express. You can do just the ones you want or pick them all at once. Good Luck to you.

When evaluating software or hardware, it makes sense to ignore the popular press, especially the tech blogs and to an extent, consumer opinion. Change is difficult for us humans and the early reviews of XP bear it out. Below is a snapshot of cnet's Windows XP review back in 2001. I got to this page using the web archive. Note that cnet bemoans the fact that a user can only load XP on one computer. Really cnet? And note user opinions: 48% disliked XP after its first several months. Microsoft was roundly criticized for not having an OS that would work across all platforms: computer, tablet and mobile phone. Now Win 8 is negatively reviewed for not having a start button. Anyone remember when the criticism was that Windows had a start button? I use Win7 home premium on this computer and Win7 Pro on my daytrading rig. The next computer I buy will have Windows 8. Sure you can do it, get a flash drive or external hard drive, plug it into the old pc, select the files and folders you want to copy to the new one right click on them and select the drive letters for the flash drive or external drive. Then plug that drive into the new pc and copy them from it to the new pc select where you want them to go. If you were to set up a network with ith both of them it would be very easy too. Or you can try using the windows easy transfer tool it's built in to 7,but you can install it on vista too, you can google for that, this link tells about this. y easy too. Hmm, let's see if we can explain this for you. You cannot create an image of XP then transfer that to Win7. Why? Because you would wipe the Win 7 off the computer and have XP back again, not what is wanted. However you can back up all your personal data to either a CD, DVD, thumb drive or external drive to be copied back easily enough. Possibly most of your 'stuff' is in sub folders of My Documents so simply save My Documents. Then save your Favourites, Address Book and what ever else you need saved. Once you are satisfied that all your data has been safely saved you can insert the Win7 CD and reboot the computer. Hopefully your BIOS is set to seek the CD/DVD player first, if so simply follow along with the instructions that appear onscreen. One option offered if I remember correctly is to format the hard drive - or just the C: partition if you have the drive partitioned. hen you get the option to proceed with the install. You will have been warned that proceeding will erase all data currently on the C: drive of course. Once Win 7 is behaving nicely you can insert what ever you saved your My Documents onto and copy the contents to Documents in Win 7. My documents does not exist in Win 7 it is just Documents.
