You have to type in like John Doe.com and save it that way
and delete the other only after your sure it's .com or .net
or whatever.

often it goes by how that persons info has been saved in your address book so I would suggest looking at your address book entries to see how they are entered and try entering all the same way so they all display the same way, you can change whether it shows nickname, full name, address etc.
Many email programs are set up to automatically save any persons email info into your email address book if you reply to an email they sent you, some ask if you want to save their info, your's may be set up to save it as the email address rather than as a persons name.

I guess I was somewhat unclear, when I first posted this, by saying, "In the In-box..." I really don't care how incoming messages are listed. The outgoing messages all say they come from my first and last name, even if my wife sends the message. What we would like is to have our outgoing messages to read From: Our e-mail address, rather than From: my name.

John if you are using Outlook Express do this
Open OE
click Tools at the top
click Properties in the new window
Now make sure the 'General' tab is viewable then at about the centre of the window is the User Information. You can put whatever you wish where it says 'Name' - don't alter anything else but click Apply and OK and you are set.

check in tools under accounts,select your account,Click on the Properties button. This will bring up Properties box with the General tab selected,In the white box under "Mail Account," you can change the name of the account, if you like. You can give the account whatever name you want.
(Note: filling out the "Name" field and the "Organization" field is optional..) where it says display name field see if it has your name there if so you need to change that to what ever it is you want it to say like your email address.

I think that is the right place, I have not used OE in years so maybe someone that is more familiar and uses it can jump in too.

What Raven says is right on. Whatever you enter in the Display Name field will show up on the recipients end as the From field. I hope that was clear. Do you have seperate email addresses in the same OE Identity?
