Lost sound....

213 GHz 1.98 GB RAM

Acer Monitor

I've lost my sound. This happened one other time, and I found it to be a loose connection...that isn't the case this time. I've checked the connections on my monitor and also on the tower...

I can't think of anything else to do...I went to the control panel and everything seems to be in order under "sounds"...when I left home this morning, all seemed well. I have a screen saver with Christmas music and can no longer hear it

Okay...I've now had time to look into my sound issue. I'm getting sound from Media Player and from e-mail that I receive with sound...there is more than one screen saver that has lost sound, but they came from the same site. Do I still need a driver if I am getting sound from these other places? what to do, what to do.....

Dell computer usually put the sound driver on a Resource CD that comes with your computer. The 2 Dell that I've worked on had this. See if your sound has been stopped in Services Under Windows Audio. Start - Control Panel - Open Administrative Tools - Open Component Services - Click Services (Local) and Scrowl down the list to Windows Audio to see if it says - Started. If stopped Left click Windows Audio and click restart. - Or Right click Windows Audio - left click Properties - Left click Start If the above doesn't work, go to control panel and open System Icon - Hardware Tab - Device Manager - Click the + Plus sign for Sounds.......... - Right click Realtek AC 97 (Or whatever Sound you have) - Left click - Update Driver. To update you will need the CD that came with your computer Or go on the Internet to download the drivers for your sound. Find what sound your using. All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Information.

This was the XP way---> start>control panel>sounds and audio devices then check the box place volume icon in the task bar? You can try that above on Vista and see if it works... The option may not be there on Vista though.... Or you can try below: Right Click on Taskbar > Properties > Notification Area tab > under system icons, check Volume.

It says on that site, that if realtek was installed with no problem, there isn't any reason to download the newer version....and realtek "is" installed on my computer.

It appears the Driver is ok or you would have no sound.
So perhaps something has gone bad w/ the screen saver file it self, download the screen saver again and see if that resolves it for you.

I uninstalled the savers and will try it again tormorrow...thanks...at first, I thought I had no sound because the screen savers had been working just fine. When I had time to imvestigate further, I found that I did have some sound...I was "hoping" that was a good sign :o)

I uninstalled the screen saver and reinstalled it last night...still no sound. I guess it's no big deal because I'm getting other sound, but I sort of liked the Christmas music...and it was working so well yesterday morning...

I again tried some screensavers with sound....they work fine for a while and then the sound gets fragmented and patchy. When this happens, "all" sound on my computer is that way. If I reboot, it is fine for a while, but it doesn't seem to play a sustained sound for a length of time.

Sounds like you you may have on board sound on your motherboard and that it is getting ready to go kaput.
