Sorry about the confusion. The computer says the speakers are working. However there is no sound . Thank you for your help.

Try plugging in earphones to see if you do have sound. If so, then the problem is probably like one I had about a year ago. I will search and try to find the thread where the solution was given. I was able to correct it with the help of Zep on this forum.

How old is this laptop and what OS does it have? It is more likely a setting or a hardware problem than a bad sound card.

Another thing to try is press down hard near the ON switch and see if the sound comes on. If it does, then there is a short in the connection that governs the speakers and the ON switch. That's what my problem was, and it requires taking the laptop apart and replacing the connecting ribbon. There are some videos available on You Tube that show how to do this, but first you need to find out the cause of your problem.

Thank you so much for your help. I plugged in a set of speakers. They have sound, although not at full potential. I will follow your other help an let you know.

The problem is now intermittent. I am using the external speakers for now.
