Letter from Firefox

Did anyone else receive a letter from Firefox asking for a donation of $10? I wouldn't mind donating...just want to be sure it's legitimate.

I have never seen or heard of mozilla or the firefox team doing anything like that. I just don't think I would go to their link in that letter and enter any info, but if you do want to donate instead type in the mozilla address and search there. The webpage does look legit but I have seen a lot of phising sites that looked very legit.
Mark Surman is the executive director but that is easily found info.

Just not sure on this one. you got this in your email?

here are some links for you to look at which may help, no promises unfortunately. Hotfix Download Available you did not mention if you are using IE6 or 7. Similar problems and resolutions note this is specifically for 2000 based systems, it does give info as to causes for this type error however. have you recently upgraded your windows media player? in some cases it seems to be causing those type errors. Readme for Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP Also please try this, go to your browser and clear out what ever you have in it for your home page, change it to google or msn or some well known site, or leave it blank, clean out all of your cache, temp internet files, cookies, history, etc in your browser, close all instances of the browser and see if that makes a difference. One thing that definitely is causing this is an improperly scripted website so it is possible that what ever site you have as your homepage could be causing it. Also please make sure you are using the very latest version of java, if not update it. you can use the secunia tool to see what needs updating. Online Software Inspector You did not mention which version of firefox you are using either, if you have not moved to version 3 yet there was still just a new update for 2.0 versions, have you done all recent updates to your particular version? 2.0.0.15 is the latest version of the 2.0 firefox. Do you have any added toolbars on your browser such as yahoo, etc? if so try removing them restarting browser and see if that helps. You should be able to go to add remove programs and get rid of toolbars. Yahoo has specifically been named in many instances. Since this is often a badly written script issue there are a LOT of things that could be causing it which is why there are so many things to try. Please let us know if you get results.

much easier if you click on bookmarks the organize bookmarks and do it from there. you can select groups at a time as Bob said. IN there you can select your folder so it is open in the right pane then hit edit and select all which will hilight all in that folder then you can delete them all or pick and choose. You can also use the move tool there to move them from one folder to another easily.

eweandbee - so glad you thought to actually ASK them your questions, instead of going on rumors. Very glad they are still carrying band roses. I have had good luck with their bands - always arrive healthy and grow well. I checked some of their prices, and it appears to me that if you order just 2 roses, you will qualify for free shipping (and there is already no sales tax because of Oregon). I must say that I am disappointed that so many folks on here spent so much time and effort trashing HR - one of our best rose nurseries on the West Coast. Of course, anyone can complain about anything, but it does seem counter productive, when we are losing rose nurseries right and left - why try to hurt one which is trying to stay in business? Jackie

Sorry for your difficulty in understanding an accent on the phone. I had an aunt who spoke with a strong German/New York accent that left me baffled when young, but gifted me with being pretty good with accents. I do need time with the person and seeing them in person definitely helps. I've worked with (dental) patients who are reluctant to speak because of their accents. I tell 'em keep talking, the more I hear them, the better I get at understanding them. Usually once they realize someone is really listening, I can't shut them up! (not that I want to) Garden gal 48 I agree about speed. Slower is better. They may not understand me well either. Anglophillia-- you may have hit the nail on the head. I once worked at a resort where the maintenance man was especially interested in a sore throat I'd complained about the day before. A co-worker explained he'd been a doctor in Cuba. Couldn't practice in the US of course. Came over on a makeshift raft. Was happier being a maintenance man in the US than a Dr. in Cuba. Kind of a eye opener for me. And yet-- Your Dr. should realize your limited energy and honor your request to not have to fill out a lengthy medical history in such a exhausting way. Ask to have them mail the forms to you so you can fill them out at home and bring them with you. This is not an unusual request. You can fill it out at your leisure as time and energy allow. You will know everything is correct. The assistant can enter the data into the computer from your form and you can avoid the situation.

I got the same email a couple days ago. I googled the name Mark Surman and found that it is legit, but I chose to ignore it. Seemed odd that Mozilla would do that.

If only a couple of us have gotten this email, wonder why everyone hasn't gotten it?

Being a constant pessimist when it comes to unusual activity or claims, could this be phishing? An e-mail can be received aping your credit card or bank website exactly, but have nothing in connection to do with the companies so why not a fraudulent display of Firefox? The timing would be right for phishing based on the recent reports of reduced funding from Google.

A quick search at Google reported nothing new regarding donations/contributions to FF.

I follow them on Facebook and they did a post on raising funds through donations.

"With less than 48 hours until New Year's Day, can you help Mozilla reach its end-of-year fundraising goal by making a tax-deductible gift today? http://mzl.la/vYMoYx";

I have not received anything by email.

Good to know.

Again, there was nothing on a cursory check on Google. Plus, I don't go anywhere near Facebook, Twitter, and such so I would not know of anything related to them.

More than 98 percent of MozillaÃ¯Â¿Â½s 2010 revenue came from royalties paid by search-engine companies, and by some estimates, Google made up around 85 percent of that. For 2010, Google was basically $100 million of MozillaÃ¯Â¿Â½s entire $123 million income.
