The fire can be unlocked though. There are instructions on the amazon boards for doing it but I don't quite understand it all so have not done it. I was actually going to post a question about this as there is a slot game in the android market I really would love on my kindle if it could be done. no it does not stand in landscape, only as shown. The padded fabric area that morphs into the stand is sewn on at the bottom so that makes it impossible to adjust that option. I added my review and the pics with the rollover notes on the amazon page for this case since there were no pics there for it. I like the ability to add the notes on the pictures. With my arthritis in my hands it was at times hard to hold onto the thin slick PDN, this gives me much more to hold onto which really helps when you have trouble grasping in the first place. It does block the SD card slot but it holds the unit in so securely that sliding off one elastic band does not allow the PDN to fall out, the other 3 hold it in. The unique thing I did not mention is that this case actually has 8 elastic bands that you can choose from so that it will fit various ereaders, most only have the 4. Very nice for those that own more than one type of ereader. From the provided info it holds these: Fits the Amazon Kindle 2, Barnes & Noble Nook, and Sony Reader Daily Edition, Touch Edition and PRS-700 and now they can add the PDN to their list. Plug your reader into your computer using the USB cable. 2\. Locate the "My Computer" icon on your desktop or just "Computer". This can also be found by clicking on the "start" button in the lower left\-hand corner of your screen. 3\. Locate the drive listed as "Removable disk". 4\. This file should have Adobe Digital Editions as the first icon. Powering your Pandigital Novel with the supplied AC adapter (please ignore this step and just be sure that your Pandigital Novel is fully charged before you attempt the upgrade process). 3. Connect your Pandigital Novel to your computer using the USB cable that was supplied with your device. 4. Power your Pandigital Novel on (your Novel will go into "PC Mode"\- this means that your Novel will be inoperable while connected to your computer). 12. Once you have completed these steps, please click on "Ok" to advance to the next step. 13. The Updater Application will then display a screen and ask you to confirm the details of your device (serial number, model number, etc.). Confirm these details by clicking on the "Confirm" button. 14. You will now begin the download process. (This process can take some time depending on your computer and your internet speed). 15. Once you have finished the download the screen will display that you have successfully downloaded the firmware update. At this point you will see another text box on appear on your screen giving you more instruction. These instructions will include: 1. Removing your Pandigital Novel device from your computer 2. Informing you that your Novel may or may not turn itself off, if it does not turn itself off, please power the Novel completely off by pressing the power button and choosing the "power off" option. 3. Now it will ask you to power your Novel back on in a very specific way. Please press the power and volume up button (located on the top of your device and is the + key) at the same time (not one and then the other, they must be pressed at the same time) for 10 seconds. Please do these steps until you see two lines of white text appear at the top of your screen that states the boot count and firmware version. As soon as you see these lines of text, let go of the power and volume + buttons. This should begin the update process in the form of a blue progress bar appearing at the bottom of the screen that will state things like "verifying update." If you have reached this screen your Novel is now updating properly. If you do not see this screen, please power your device off once more and try the activation process of holding the power and volume + buttons again. Do not be discouraged if this takes a few tries, and be sure you are holding the edge of the power + button; holding it too close to the middle will not activate the update. 4. Once the update is complete, please power off your Pandigital Novel completely, then reconnect the device to your computer using the USB cable and power it on after it is plugged in. 5. Click on "Ok". This will then run a process called a "restore". Once this has finished please disconnect your novel and once more perform the activation process of holding down the power and volume + buttons. You will again get another blue progress bar at the bottom of your screen when done correctly. 16. Congratulations! You have now updated your Pandigital Novel successfully! I have attached a new user manual for your use as the interface of your Novel has now changed to the most recent version. I would stay away from refurbs on these. The prices are pretty good with out having to take those chances. The reason I say go with 2.3 is that some things will not work on the earlier versions. I do have an Android 2.2 tablet and it does most of what I want but if I had my preference I would have wanted at least 2.3. That is a good price for the Coby, I have never messed with that one but I am on some android forums and many people do have it. On amazon it has a lot of good reviews from buyers too. I would make sure that what ever site you get it from you do have a return option just in case you don't like it. There really is not much to learn as to Android, everything is plainly labeled as an icon on the tablets and to get new apps there are lots of places to get those, if the tablet you get does have access to the android market you can get them there, or from amazon app store, or using the slide me app to get them from other sources. That has not been a problem at all quick and easy to get apps installed. Aldiko can be easily downloaded and installed from many app sources so even if one does not have it don't worry you can always add it. I see that Coby for a little less at this place Coby Electronics on the processor most you will see in that range will have the ARM11 800MHz (that range), that is pretty standard, some of the newer ones especially those with android 3 and up can have a dual core processor which is quite a bit beefier. You will also notice some say the screen is resistive or capacitative the really early resistive ones were very hard to get to respond, the newer ones respond very well with a finger nail tap, the capacitative is much more responsive and is what cell phones have and take a lighter touch with the finger tip. I have both but I have not ever had to use a stylus mine are plenty responsive with my finger. If you were used to the touch of a smart phone and picked up a tablet with resistive you would notice a difference but you quickly adjust to the differences in pressure needed. Also keep in mind that it is possible for them to be updated, the manufacturers do send out updates for them just like we update our pc, and on 2 of mine they updated the Android OS from a lower version to a higher one. I like to check the manufacturers site and see if there are updates listed for their products. My newest tablet told me there was an update for it the first time I turned it on and it was an update to the newer Android version which was really nice. I had an ad today in my email for a Velocity Micro Cruz tablet for $79 but it is already sold out, that one also has a lot of people that like it.
