Ok this is simple now. Just use Google and type edit registry and millions of hits appear. Look through the first few and you will find many tutorials with good graphics showing step by step. You are nervous and rightly so because of all the warnings about messing up a registry. HOWEVER, this is nothing more than making a correction to a spelling error if you look at it that way. First time just go into the registry working down to the needed page. Once there you can walk away and grab a coffee if you feel stress, or you can make the simple correction to the one entry in question. Those of us who help others always need to stress the importance of caution in the registry because of those who are so impetuous. my ex son in law is a good example, he goes into a computer like a bull in a china shop. Luckily I do not have to clean up behind him anymore :) Now I have learned how to put stuff into a flash drive and save my files. Why? You are going to back up the registry as a precaution, nothing more. To save your work, assuming it is stored in My Documents. Insert the thumb drive, cancel the popup right click Start click Explore Now you see Windows Explorer opened Look near the top on the left side and right click on My Documnts click Properties in the pop up Look to see how large the My Documents folder is and if you have enough room on the thumb drive. We'll assume you have room. OK.... Click My Documents to highlight On the right side click the top item to highlight Hold down the Shift key and tap the End key now all the right side is highlighted right click anywhere on the highlighted data click Copy in the pop up Scroll down the left side now to find the thumb drive right click on it in the pop up click Paste and the contents are copied to your thumb drive - or any other drive you designate. Done! Simple huh?

I hate to say it but it is sounding like you may be one of the ones that just can not install it. Most that have had problems if they try that stand alone full install with everything disconnected and disabled can do it. what brand of pc is it and what type of processor is it? you do know that you can not get windows updates using firefox you must use IE, the windows update site is set up only to work with IE browser. If you are not using that pc for any sensitive stuff like your banking and purchases you may well have to leave it with sp2 with all the updates you can get for it from windows update site. you did disable winpatrol also when trying the install? I do have one of my older ones that has sp2 it is one that had install problems also, I rarely use it but keep everything as updated as possible that is about all I can do. I only do my banking and credit card stuff using linux anyway.

Shaddy: You should be able to download the installation program here: https://www.malwarebytes.org To uninstall the program because it was causing trouble, I went from Start>Control Panel >Programs and Features, and then found Malwarebytes in the list of programs and clicked on its name to select it, at which point a row of possible things to do appeared up above the list. One of them was Uninstall, so I clicked on that to uninstall the program. I am running Windows 7 and your PC's operating system may do things a bit differently so far as the names of things are concerned, but the general idea is to use the Control Panel to uninstall programs. In my case, it was a bit more complicated than that, because Windows said it couldn't uninstall Malwarebytes as something was missing. To fix that, I downloaded a new copy of its installation software and installed that, then I was able to uninstall the whole thing. I have been too busy to reinstall and try using it again, but expect to get around to doing that today. And I sure hope those nagging pop-ups will have disappeared. If not, I guess my only option will be to keep uninstalling the program and reinstalling it from time to time as needed. Hope it doesn't come to that, because it's really a good program.

Usually it's a two step process - a file is downloaded to your PC, then it needs to be "run" If you're using Firefox, after the download, click on the downward pointing arrow at the upper right on the tool bar. Then you should see a file that ends in .exe. Click on that, that will install the product. If using Chrome, a bar appears on the bottom that shows the download's progress. When it's complete, click on the box for the file to run. Either way, the same. Where it downloads to, the desktop or a different folder, is of no consequence so long as you access it from the browser when the download shows as having finished.
