That's pretty easy .. Don't use word !

Look in your event viewer logs for error messages that pertain, and perhaps follow the link to microsoft for a possible fix.

Gee - thanks Mikie!
Another dumb question - what's an event viewer?
PS I went to Bogie!

Heat exchanger is either cracked or clogged? That is like saying "the wall is either white or black", isn't it? (The question is aimed at techs, not the OP.) The service company must do installs too. If you need a replacement then why don't they want to do now? That would be in their interest since they get your money now. The whole thing sounds very weird. You should find out what is wrong and remedy it now. The cleaning can be done now instead of the fall. They can evaluate it at the same time. If cleaning fixes what ever is wrong with it, they can skip the cleaning in the fall and do it a little earlier than usual next year. (There is nothing magic about doing it in a particular month.) If you need a new furnace, the time to get estimates and make leisurely decisions is NOW, not when the frost is on the pumpkins! Maybe he wants you over a barrel in the Fall.

AC Kicks off, won't kick back on without turning off completely

It is possible that your setting (low to mid 60's) is causing the coil to freeze, and shutting down on safety. This could explain why the unit needs to 'rest' for 40 minutes, in order for the ice to melt. Leaving your window open at night allows the night time humidity to infiltrate your apt. Leaving the a/c off all day allows the heat to build up. Both heat and humidity put a burden on your a/c which has to be satisfied before you feel comfortable. Being that your apt is 550 sq ft, the unit could be oversized which will result in frequent short cycling (less humidity removal). Try minimizing opening of your windows at night (unless outside humidity is low) and leaving your a/c on while away, although at a higher setting. You need to experiment. V

Need to turn off 2 circuit breakers to turn off fixture
Q

Tell us the make and model of the breakers. That may indicate that the panel was swapped after the house was initially built. The condition is dangerous for multiple reasons. When I have found this problem, it often was that two circuits went to a wall box and got tied together. In cases like this both circuits feeding that fixture(s) must be on the same pole of the service in order not to create a dead short circuit. Find and discontinue the interconnection.

Turn off pool filter for 7 day vacation- solar cover on or off?
Q

We must turn our pool off for a 7 day vacation in July (PA). Would it be better to leave the solar cover on or keep it off? We have a fiberglass pool and I was planning to put extra chlorine and algaecide in it and hope for the best. We normally never have any issues and always have sparkling clear water. Is there anything else I should do to prepare for 7 days without the pump running? I know we should leave the filter on it's regular cycle but this time we cannot. Thanks in advance for any help!

Right click on your taskbar:

Properties->Start Menu->Customize Button->Advanced tab

Under "Start Menu Items:" Scroll the Window down to "System Administrative Tools" and cick on:

Display on the All Programs Menu and the Start Menu

Make sure the little dot is in the circle.

Now you have "Administrative Tools" displayed as a permanent option on the right-hand side of your Start Menu.

One of the many handy and useful selections found by mousing over "Administrative Tools" in/on your Start Menu is the "Event Viewer".

The "Event Viewer" is sort of the boo-boo list of the day(s).

Doing it this way makes it very handy and also has your "Device Manager" listed under "Computer Management" from "Administrative Tools".

This way you can look up things very easily...no matter what you are doing at the time.

I assumed that after you made your selection, you select the "OK" button at the bottom of the menu (after your dot was in the circle for choosing the Aministrative Tools selection). Then be sure to select the "Apply' Button when you are brought back to the Start Menu..menu.

Seems like a lot of work, but it isn't. It's just a few clicks and you are set for life...yeah.

Good luck and Merry Christmas!
